Nowhere does it suggest British except the British headline, English speaking and American  and we all know everyone loves a 'crikey mate'

A lot more non-English people than English people speak the English language..


English is the second most widely spoken language globally, after Chinese.

There is no single "English accent", in the same way as there is no single American accent..


Finally, that survey is distinctly euro-centric --  they only mention Western Euro' accents in that article  !!!

French accents...hmmm sometimes, but I think they can sound a little cold. German accents nooooo and Italian or Spanish...meh. Can give or take.

American accents are kinda sexy but there are a couple I'm not keen on, New York being one and can't think of the other one but it might be  Alabama perhaps?
Canadian accents are whiny.

Australian accents sound friendly, really friendly, but they're not sexy.  

Jamaican accents are nice but the weirdest one of all is Bajan; it sounds like a bent out of shape Cornish accent.

I think that's what wolf is referring to.  English is the first language of all Americans, Canadians, Australians and, like, white South Africans and Rhodesians.

The Brits made their mark far and wide, and now the language is all over the world as a first language.

Afrikaans is the first language of white south Africans

The reality is the French will be more referring to the Brits being as they are neighbours and interact more often than any of the other English speaking countries.

Its common sense. You and Wolf are simple speculating based off poor reasoning. When it makes far more sense in regards to those they have more contact with. This could well include the USA based solely on films/tv. Where I doubt they watch much tv from the other English speaking nations

Yes, I think wolf meant in the wider sense of world-wide languages.  I've often been struck by the thought that England is no longer the owner, nor even the chief stock-holder, of the English language.  

Did you know that every international aircraft pilot must speak English, because it is the universal language of air traffic control?

A couple of people who were known to be quite horrible....had the gentlest voices too...that was a shock.
One woman who I expected to sound like Arthur Mullard had the sweetest voice of the lot.
