Telling the truth on forums.
Do you tell the truth, or is it a good place to tell a few porkies and no one can prove you are lying.
I see a couple of people have been accused of making stuff up on here lately.......whether they do or not only they know...I tend to believe most people till I don't.
Without turning the thread into a call fest, concentrate on your own forum history no one else's, and can you HONESTLY say you always tell the truth...hand on heart?
I will go first..I have never deliberately told a fib on a forum...and that's the truth.

I used to think everyone was who they said they were and telling the truth, but of course I'm wiser now and know they don't.
It's a platform for lots to be someone else, and so long as they don't string anyone along, NS springs to mind, then I don't care anymore. I'm never gonna meet them.

I don't know why Syl was given a red for this, so I've made it even and given her a green

Yes I believe you do Tommy.
I had a friend once, a social worker, she lied constantly.....she saw absolutely nothing wrong with it, and tbh they were harmless lies.
This was before forums, I imagine if she is still around she would be having a merry old time fantasising on various internet sites.
She used to say that her dream holiday would be to go on a cruise and become someone totally different from herself, just for a couple of weeks.

I believe everyone both on forums and in RL till I find out differently.
The friend I mentioned in another post.....I believe she liked the fantasy life rather than her own rather humdrum (to her) life....I liked her a lot in spite of her fibs.

Re: Telling the truth on forums.
What does it matter where someone says they tell the truth. If then someone does not believe you? If someone disbelieves you it then does not matter whether someone has told the truth or not. So then what is the point in then declaring that you only speak the truth? If someone is not going to believe you anyway? All you are doing, is finding out who really likes and respects people.
All people tell lies at some point and its about whether they are honest in doing so. I would have more respect for someone who admits that they have.

I don't think it does matter that much tbh, unless someone is deliberately trying to mislead for personal gain or to garner a friendship based on lies.....its not a big deal.
Thor...I don't believe all people do lie, I don't, believe that or don't believe that.
I have told white lies like there IS a Father Christmas and a tooth fairy....but .I don't think in the scheme of things they count?

I think people can be very dishonest in how they are to someone up front and how they speak about them behind their back. Many people are guilty of this. Which normally stems from being annoyed at something the person says or does.

Two faced? Yes I suppose that is a form of dishonesty.....I don't like that.
I always work on the assumption if someone is calling someone to me ...and being nice to that persons face...they are probably calling me rotten to someone else.
Its a good rule to work by...both on and off forums.

I think some do so in anger most of the time and its more about how people can move on and get on.
I agree on your rule though, as that is generally the case.

Anger doesn't bother me...we can all do and say things in anger, it proves that the person is passionate and human, better than being cold and detached.

There seems to be some sort of attempted censorship on this forum lately...and not by the mods either...I wonder who?
Its very simple ...if someone doesn't like a thread, its the easiest thing in the world to simply ignore it. .

How is someone giving their disapproval of the view made within a post now censorship Syl?
You already know that a couple of posters have a certain view of you. So its easy to deduce who did.
So why are you bothered that someone has?
You are just allowing yourself to be distracted from the topic.
It goes back to my points earlier, that people will disbelieve someone no matter what. Mainly as they have formed a dislike of a poster and this happens to me by certain posters all the time, but it does not bother me. I imagine they did not believe your first post, hence the red. I take it as a badge of honour when they do..
Not sure why being given a red would bother you to be honest.

I tell the truth, I don't post much about personal life and have to be very careful what I say around my job especially at the moment. I just think that's sensible as there are some right nut nuts around. I never understand the need for some to invent these fantastic lives where they have everything and beyond but are on line all the hours God sends.

The reds don't bother me Thor....but when a red is also given to someone just because they have agreed with a poster they don't like its a bit pathetic.
You are right though....the topic is always more interesting to talk about than who is sneaking about anonymously giving red stripes.

I think you are wise in limiting what you say about yourself on line......I am pretty open, but if I was working in a field that relied on confidentiality I would be far more careful.
I know of a woman who was sacked from her job because of a comment she made on facebook. Someone reported it to her employer and because she worked for the local council she was given notice....all over a careless remark.

It would be funny if people had to put a comment to why they are giving red. As can be done for when editing a post.
I imagine less people would do so if they had to state why...
