Report: WH Squeezed FBI on Russia Ties

What the left hand accuses, the right hand indeed does. Now you see the other side of he who alleges 'fake news.' The WH is trying to bully the FBI into fabricating news, rather than its singular purpose of investigation.

This is what Kellyanne Conway means by 'alternative facts'. Co-opt the agencies into becoming propaganda machines.

Perhaps, but first things first. Russia sticking their dick into America's political soup is a far more worrisome issue. Chasing after leaks is a ruse, an attempt to say look over there, don't look over here! Leaks are a dime a dozen in politics, so much so that it would be an attempt to criminalize politics.

In any event, who cares? The leak chasers would find Kellyanne Conway, Ivana and Steve Bannon on the end of the hunt. Trump would say forget it; he wants to go after the leak receivers, not the promulgators. As I pointed out above, he can't do that because the First Amendment eclipses any law.

The whole effort is a diversion. Make noise and appear to have a counter-issue, even though it's an unconstitutional issue. Having a weighty counter-issue is a way of claiming righteousness when you are knee-deep in shit.

Deflection is just that -- it would be better to examine the actual ramifications of this news. After all, during the campaign, Trump told us we shouldn't worry about how we were getting information from the inside of the Democrats' operation, but instead focus on what that information was.

First off, it's highly inappropriate for the White House to lean on Justice to help it sell its lies. That should be a given but it does appear that a lot of people either never learned or have forgotten how checks and balances are supposed to work.

I think the bigger thing going on here, though, is implied. Why would the administration do this? It should have been obvious that such a request had a high probability of making the administration look even more corrupt and desperate than it has in this past ... shit, has it really only been a month?

This was a Hail Mary pass. The administration is obviously panicking about what happens next when it begins to dawn on the majority of the American people that despite all the America First talk, this administration is all about Russia's interests. That's become the prevailing narrative, so the administration needed somebody with credibility to hit back against that. So it asked the FBI to lie.

That's the kind of fear this staff is living with every day -- that some reporter (aka "enemy of the American people") is going to report some news (aka "fake news") that pulls the rug out from under the whole operation. They're afraid Ryan will become president and they'll be leaving the White House in shame.

Not only the FBI, but the WH people enlisted the help of the House (Devin Nunez) and Senate Intelligence Committee (Richard Burr) leaders, who willingly labeled the rumors as unfounded.

So much for independent investigations from standing committees of Crongress.
