Corbyn uncovers a corrupt plot by Conservative Central Office to pay a sweetener to Surrey Council to avoid them having to call a referendum on a 15% council tax rise.
Funnily enough, the area is littered with Conservative cabinet members.
And May is saying the undisputable evidence of emails are 'alternative facts'.

Exactly. The fact is that no-one among us can say for certain that there is some sort of "sweetheart deal" - or that there is not.

An unnamed whistleblower leaked what were obviously private emails to Corbyn, and Corbyn used them to try to ambush and wrong foot the PM. That is his right, as Leader of the Opposition; indeed it is his job.

The government and Surrey County Council have strongly denied that there is such a deal, made exclusively with that particular council - and that is their right as well as their duty.

I have read the statutorily apolitical BBC's coverage of the issue, disregarding coverage in the Left Wing Guardian or the Right Wing Daily Mail, and it does seem that the offer is, indeed, part of a pilot scheme possibly intended for wider availability among English local authorites over the coming few years. That would support the official line

If that is NOT the case, then IMO the issue is very, very suspicious.

Only time and events will tell.

But one thing that I am not going to do is blindly to accept the interpretation placed on it by the "Wear Red" website cited in this thread, which is no less less unthinkingly biased than some extreme websites of the opposite political persuasion.

The NHS is in a parlous state despite a huge infusion of cash since labour was kicked out. people like you fail to even acknowledge is that much of the state of the NHS is down to the unfettered immigration that labour encouraged for 13 years without any real investment in extra capacity. All they did was saddle trusts with huge debts that they can barely service due the PPI initiatives they introduced, costing trusts up to 5 times more than the value of the hospitals being built.
Can you explain you view of the welsh NHS which is in an even worse state but fully controlled by labour in wales, or is your faux outrage only expressed against the tories.
Somehow I think it is the latter.

Defence has been cut that is true, it was cut by labour for 13 years. the procurement under them was an utter disaster. the new "aircraft carriers" we have are barely fit for purpose and will be stuck flying the F35 if it ever makes it to being combat worthy some time in the distant future.

Should we be cutting the armed forces to the bone, no of course not, but it is not a new thing. Back in 1976 labour slashed defence spending, and before anyone pipes up, the tories also cut when they got in after labour were booted out in disgrace again.

the tories did more for the poor by increasing the tax allowance in 1 year than labour did in 13, so it is not labour that are the friend of the poor but the tories who have taken millions out of tax all together.

My loyalty on this forum is to the posters and the whole admin team, and yes, to Ben for personal reasons - I've never hidden that.

we (mods) ARE indeed loyal to Ben...and the spirit and ethos of the forum. even when (as happens) we "rub some posters up the wrong way" so to speak......

and EVEN...sometimes one another....

Andy's remarks were OTT. He went too far.

HOWEVER the matter was dealt with swiftly and thoroughly by a moderator.

He received an official warning for this, so no one can say he ''got away with it''. Anyone pushing for something harsher than a warning [ie a ban] is breaking a rule. Cos pressing for a ban for someone is a no-no !!


It is rule-breaking to descend on a thread with no intention of commenting on the actual topic, only on the row itself. The owner has said before that commenting on a row, perpetuates it.  Ignore the row and just comment on the topic instead.

Three mods have spoken and their verdicts should be accepted. Perhaps those of us who are not mods can get on with discussing the topic in hand?

You never know, there might be a Right Whinger out there to address the issue. I won't hold my breath, it's what I've come to expect.

Dean, I don't know where you get off criticizing Ben. He runs a superb site here. He selects excellent people, who understand their own regional areas, and carry out their responsibilities in fine fashion.

I've never been on your site, but just because Ben does an excellent job at delegating is no reason for criticism. He has an excellent sense of organization and frankly, he doesn't clog the place up with personal vendettas.
