Oh my word, no, don't want your dogs to starve, but it's not YOUR waste, it's THE PLANET'S WASTE!!!!!!

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
and therin lies the problem....what one calls waste is anothers "dog food"
AND...collecting it to central points for processing etc is cost prohibitive....

Did you not notice 'cut down on landfill sites'. And it's already collected, by Councils.

Oh my word, how difficult, all that work to save the planet and our kid's health.

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
well its a point....some folks havnt got the room...yet if the bloody things protrude as much as an inch onto the pavement some clown from the council is there threatening fines etc....
Its got nowt to do with "work"...its got all to do with practicality...
We have already had one idiot from the council "suggest" that they should be round the back of the property as they are a eyesore on the front drive....
he went away having been told to fuck off, i'll put em where the hell I want on my property....not where some idiot thinks I ought to.

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
We have a black bin, normal waste which never gets filled, brown for garden waste, which now goes to our allotment, green for recycing, which most of it goes and small food waste bin which I use for stuff I can't take the to allotment compost heap. It's not difficult, I don't get why people find it a problem, apart from if your house is right on the road without a front garden and no way through from the back, in which case we need to look into how to overcome that.

Corbyn doesn't even know what he thinks any more... he used to be against the eu, but then after becoming labtard leader, he suddenly changed to being a supporter of the eu... he wants to re-nationalise the railways and stop the creeping privatisation of other public services, but as he now also supports being in the eu and controlled by the eu rules on public sector procurement that dictate that all public sector services must be open to private corporations to tender for, then he is clearly completely barmy... or maybe he is just displaying classic leftie 'quantum thinking' where they are able to hold two completely opposing ideas at the same time and beleive each to be 100% correct...!?

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
the problem IS....
so far we have 3 big bins
as said...I can keep em on the front drive...and thats where they will stay...eyesore or not....
BUT...what about the disabled/elderly? who dont have room on the front???
we tend to look after our own on my street...so they get sorted by people who can be trusted with a key to the gate access to the back of the property.....
not all are so lucky.....

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
Agreed, that's why we need to get things like that sorted. Around here those over 80 and the disabled don't have to put their bins out, the dustmen collect them.

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
yep...I'm not saying it cant be done....but I do wonder about the practicality of it all.....
oh and having been involved with the waste disposal side of things DONT beleive everything your council tells you....We very nearly had our council in court over bad practice and what amounted to fraud.

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
I know, and I know here is not as good as in Taunton, which is exceptional in it's recycling. But you have to start somewhere and being negative will never get it done.

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
personally I would like to see a cost/benefit evaluation of the whole idea
since the costs of collection must be vastly higher than the value of any fuel recovered, even IF you can put a "value" on land fill space saved and include that too....
Now it may be that the savings in landfill tax offset the costs of collection to some extent, that would have to be included...but do those councils that do this have to pay someone to take this particular waste away, or do the councils get paid for it ??

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
That's crazy, it has to be collected as we can't have the rubbish everwhere, so it's not something that can be stopped whatever we do with it.

As it stands....its now collected along with all the other non recyclable waste, and landfilled
what is proposed is yet another seperate collection...involving extra costs (ie another round of the bin lorry with ITS fuel and attendant wages of driver and 2-3 "waste technicians" pfffffft)
so its NOT "costless" to collect it....

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
No it isn't, it's the recycled waste, and the food waste, that can be used to provide energy.

do me a favour....go back and re read the last few posts about this....
you have "lost the thread"
YES it can be used...BUT it cant go with the recyclables (tins glass etc...)
and it cant go with the non recyclables
so its a seperate collection

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
It's taken FROM the recyling, it's not separate, it is done after it is collected, from stuff that would be collected anyway.

Diverting just a portion of the world's food waste to waste-to-energy systems could free up large amounts of landfill space while powering vehicles and heating homes

Where there's a will there's a way.
when i do buy power from the grid it probably comes from
Woodlawn Bioreactor, which is a working instance of your link.

Where there's a will there's a way. and with a little bit on ingenuity it's done

Thats not the scheme I have seen
indeed we cannot put anything into our recyclables that is contaminated...we even have to rinse tins etc out first....
all the similar schemes I have seen are the same...a seperate collection......

you should just copy our system
we dont even have to rinse the tins
we do put them in different bins though

Re: The only Leader who actually knows what is happening
so much for how "good" biodiesel is
http://sites.keene.edu/biodiesel/files/2010/09/sweeney_and_sciacca_aec_poster1.pdf
it has higher pm2.5's higher NOX
and in general is just as, if not more so toxic when burned as "ordinary" low sulphur diesel
