ROMANIAN women working at an Amazon depot stole iPhones by hiding them in their bodies, it was claimed yesterday. The scam was reportedly only busted when one woman forgot to wear a metal belt that the gang had used as an excuse if security alarms were triggered. She was subjected to a full body search and the phone was found in her vagina, said the Sunday Times. However, Amazon said it had no “evidence, record or suggestion” to support the allegation. The ruse emerged as an MP blasted the retail giant after low-paid workers were sleeping in tents outside the depot in Dunfermline. Staff said it was cheaper and easier than commuting every day.

I presume they have to pay minimum wage/national living wage.

So Willie Rennie's remarks could apply to any company which pays minimum wage/living wage really. Is he so out of touch that he thinks it's only Amazon which doesn't pay much?

To be fair, those sleeping in tents said it was cheaper and easier than commuting. That doesn't necessarily mean that they can't actually afford anything but a tent.

Probably yes.

No, they may well have a place as well. It didn't say anything about them living in these tents 24/7 I don't think.
