Top SNP mp charged for fraud
pro-Scottish independence group and a local SNP association.
Police Scotland have charged Natalie McGarry, the Glasgow East MP, with several offences, including embezzlement of funds and breach of trust.
The 35-year-old resigned the SNP whip last year when an investigation was launched into claims £30,000 went missing from the accounts of the Women for Independence (WFI) group she co-founded.
In June this year it emerged she faced a second police investigation over money alleged to have gone missing from the SNP’s Glasgow Regional Association (GRA). It was reported more than £4,000 could not be accounted for by the group, of which Ms McGarry was convener between 2011 and 2014/15.
But Ms McGarry, who has continued to sit as an independent MP, has previously maintained her innocence. She was elected as part of the SNP's Scottish landslide in last year's general election.
