Ben Needham vanished on the Greek island of Kos in July 1991 when he was 21 months old
Missing toddler Ben Needham may have been crushed to death by a digger, campaigners searching for him have been told.
Ben, from Sheffield, was 21 months old when he disappeared on the Greek island of Kos on 24 July 1991.
The official campaign group, headed by his mother, said police were set to excavate two sites on the island.
Police, who suspect Ben died 25 years ago, have told his mother to "prepare for the worst", the Daily Mirror says.

Killed by a jcb/digger in an accident and covered up.
Friend of digger driver tells the truth after digger driver dies of stomach cancer.
Looks like this is what really happened...
Wonder what the McCanns think this means to their abduction claim being credible...?

Looks like what has really happened and what has the guy dying of stomach cancer got to do with it?
You think the digger guy killed Ben Needham?

The police have advised Ben Needham's mother that they have had a highly credible witness come forward with information about what happened to Ben.
The witness says that Ben died by accident on the day of his disappearance and was crushed by a digger and this was then hidden/covered up by the driver.
The witness says they are a friend of the digger driver, and have now come forward with the truth as the digger driver is now dead himself having just died of cancer.

I just read the same article - your link - and I never read any of that.
If it's true and his remains are found, that has got to be closure, at long last, for his poor mum.

I don't know why the digger never admitted this at the time. If it was an accident, then he wouldn't have been punished so bad, but to cover the accident up and bury him, is horrible. Also the witness who said this, if he knew back then should be arrested for holding back information.
Poor Bens mum all these years she lived in hopes and now she knows Ben is dead. How callous of the digger to let Bens mum go on thinking he was out there, heartbreaking.

I agree... I don't understand why someone would act to hide this if it was just an accident and they were blameless etc...
All I can think is maybe they just panicked out of fear... or maybe they were culpable in some way...?
And to be fair to the friend/witness... they may have only found out about it from the digger driver just before he died...?

He may have, but I'm sure I read he only came out with it now, as his friend is dead. Either way, atlast Bens mum will know. I feel so sad for her. Police have told her they are looking for a body, so they must be more certain now. They looked before, but now they know exactly where to look apparently.

I have questions and doubts over this too...
Is reported that this digger/driver was known to be in the area at the time...
But is possible that he is being set up as a patsy to take the blame...

If this is true what a terrible thing to do to keep it a secret with a family never giving hope of finding Ben alive. It's cruel beyond belief

If it's true... the dead man isn't in a position to deny it now if it wasn't really him...

You know, I actually find this explanation more plausible than any other I've heard in connection with this case!!!Tommy Monk wrote:

And this 'digger accident' line of enquiry is not a new thing... has already been investigated and exhausted...
In October 2012, police from the United Kingdom travelled to Greece to search an area that they believed might contain Ben Needham's remains. On 19 October, Greek police, assisted by a team of specialist search advisors from South Yorkshire Police, began an operation to examine the grounds of the property from which Ben disappeared.[11]
The operation, involving geophysical survey equipment, forensic archaeologists and human remains detection (HRD) dogs, was triggered by a police line of inquiry into whether Ben had been accidentally buried as a result of an excavator driver dumping building rubble nearby.[12][13] The operation did not detect any trace of the child.

I must admit I dont really know anything much about this case or circumstances around this childs disappearance...
But from what I have seen... i definitely smell a rat...

I have had a look at some of the reported circumstances around this boys disappearance... and the story just doesn't add up to me...
I dont think that this child was abducted by any stranger...

I dint know what happened and haven't read enough to make any judgements but this digger story sounds like it's going nowhere.
