Prime example of leftie lies and spin - corbyn on trains being full
HAPLESS Jeremy Corbyn was humiliated yesterday after it emerged he faked a sit-down protest on a train.
The under-fire labour leader was filmed calling for railways to be renationalised as he sat between carriages complaining the service was “completely ram-packed”.
But CCTV emerged today appearing to show Mr Corbyn walked past rows of empty seats on the Virgin Trains service to Newcastle before recording his irate message.
And in a stunning intervention, billionaire Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson produced photo evidence showing that Mr Corbyn, 67, enjoyed a seat for most of the journey from London King’s Cross.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/1659622/cctv-reveals-jeremy-corbyn-had-a-seat-during-train-journey-he-claimed-was-so-ram-packed-he-had-to-sit-on-the-floor/

Oh dear, didn't you realise that it had been shown the seats were all reserved and witnesses at the time have come forward to say that JC was telling the truth. Never one to be up with the news eh Tommy.
Can't think why Branson wants to pretend his trains aren't crowded:
Did Corbyn stage traingate? Clearly not. Did Virgin/BBC break law? Probably.

Virgin today has claimed that, in effect, Jeremy Corbyn staged the video of him sitting on the floor of a full train, insisting that there were seats available and releasing CCTV footage of him walking along the train past – they claim – empty and unreserved seats, as well as empty and reserved seats that he could have taken.
Scandalously, BBC News continues (as of 8.20pm) to cover the ‘row’ as if there is still any dispute about the matter, when there is already ample evidence that the facts completely support Corbyn’s account.
Virgin’s statement reads:
Numerous eye-witnesses have come forward to state that the train was exactly as full as Corbyn described – often saying that they themselves had to stand for much of the journey – including images of themselves on the packed train. Here are some:
To give the BBC just a tiny bit of credit, they do end their coverage with a mention that some people dispute Virgin’s account, but when it’s perfectly clear that there’s no ‘controversy’, they’re stooping very low to frame it as if there is and to spend the majority of the piece talking as if there’s any merit in Virgin’s claims.
True to form, ‘chicken coup’ Labour MPs such as the lamentable Chris Bryant and the hideous John Spellar jumped all over the issue without any concern for its truthfulness or otherwise:
I won’t hold my breath waiting for the retractions and apologies that any honourable person would be quick to issue – nor the prominent corrections BBC News and other media should be running to put right their eagerness to mislead the public (and getting caught doing it).
Oh, and on Branson’s snide “We’d encourage Jeremy to book ahead next time”, this – on a different date – is worth knowing about:
I expect that Jeremy Corbyn misses a lot of trains for similar reasons, but the desperately awful Dan Hodges tried to use the train incident to criticise Corbyn’s leadership abilities:
A party leader that cares about people more than he cares about making a train on which he’s booked a seat – and would rather sit on the floor than upgrade to hobnob in first class – is the kind of leader I want running the country. As I’m sure most sensible people would.
However, there is another key question to address: that Virgin may have broken data protection laws in apparent eagerness to protect their commercial interests by making a politician who is unashamedly on record as wanting to re-nationalise a key money-spinner.
The ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) has jurisdiction over the Data Protection Act and over companies’ handling of information that they collect about us – including CCTV footage. Here’s what the ICO says (highlighting mine) about the proper use of CCTV recordings:
There’s nothing whatever in the rules that states a company can release CCTV of an identifiable person in order to shore up their commercial reputation that might be damaged by revelations of over-full trains (although Corbyn only talks about general overcrowding issues, not Virgin’s).
By releasing it online and to the BBC so that the BBC can use it for entertainment – which BBC News undoubtedly is – both organisations appear to have contravened the ICO’s specific prohibition, since the BBC is evidently not protecting Corbyn’s identity as adherence to the Data Protection Act requires.
So, what do we actually have here? Is it a case of, as Spellar claimed on Twitter, a case of Corbyn’s team attempting a media stunt and failing?
Or is it a case of a business trying to protect its commercial interests by undermining someone who has said he would nationalise their industry, a set of MPs making fools of themselves in their desperation to undermine Corbyn’s Labour leadership campaign and a broadcaster all too ready to breach not only the ICO’s clear prohibition against such use of the footage but, arguably, to have engaged in slander against Jeremy Corbyn?
It’s clearly not the first.

Virgin’s statement reads:
However, the footage released by Virgin is extremely unclear – from the camera angle shown, seats that appear empty in stills turn out to be occupied, as can be clearly seen if you watch the 13-second footage that the BBC has been using carefully.Seats were available on the train in which Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn was filmed sitting on the floor, Virgin Trains has found.
Film footage released to the media showed Mr Corbyn sitting on the floor of a three-hour Virgin Trains service from London to Newcastle claiming it was “ram-packed”.
CCTV footage taken from the train on August 11 shows Mr Corbyn and his team walked past empty, unreserved seats in coach H before walking through the rest of the train to the far end, where his team sat on the floor and started filming.
The same footage then shows Mr Corbyn returning to coach H and taking a seat there, with the help of the onboard crew, around 45 minutes into the journey and over two hours before the train reached Newcastle. Mr Corbyn’s team carried out their filming around 30 minutes into the journey.
There were also additional empty seats on the train (the 11am departure from King’s Cross) which appear from CCTV to have been reserved but not taken, so they were also available for other passengers to sit on…We’d encourage Jeremy to book ahead next time he travels with us, both to reserve a seat and to ensure he gets our lowest fares

Hahahahah.
The guy that shot the video that Virgin Trains used has said that he shot that AFTER Jeremy Corbyn had to sit on the floor.
That's the RW for you though. They'll believe anything that the RW press come out with researching any further.

Just watched video, Corbyn walked past at least a dozen seats that were empty, and with NO reserve labels on them.

Re: Prime example of leftie lies and spin - corbyn on trains being full
Oh dear, you are on the net, why don't you use. The guards on the train have admitted it was full to the gunnels, the seats he walked past were either prebooked or had a book/cardigan/case on to show they were taken. He had prebooked a seat but gave it to a family with children, the guards offered to upgrade him to 1st Class which he declined because he (and I) think all seats should be the same. They were so desperate to get him seated because they knew it would show Virgin up, they upgraded a family to 1st Class and asked him to use their seats, that was after approx hour into the journey, and thats when they showed him seated.
It is illegal to release CCTV when their has been no crime committed without getting the permission of those of the film, which Virgin didn't do and that is being investigated
There are literally dozens of people come forward to confirm this and tell Branson he's a liar.

Re: Prime example of leftie lies and spin - corbyn on trains being full
The row over whether Jeremy Corbyn had to sit on the floor of a Virgin train has taken a new twist after passengers on the service disputed the company’s version of events.
Earlier this month Mr Corbyn released a video of himself sitting on the floor of a Virgin East Coast train arguing that “this is a problem that many passengers face every day”.
The train company, however, has released CCTV stills showing Mr Corbyn finding a seat on the train, saying that it “clearly wasn’t the case” he could not find somewhere to sit. Though Mr Corbyn did not claim that there were no seats on the train, he said it was “ram-packed”.
Other people on the train have however come forward to say it was in fact very busy, at least at the start of the journey.
One passenger, Keren Harrison, posted a picture of herself on the train with Mr Corbyn and gave an account of events that contradicted the company’s version.
"I was on said train and it was very busy!" she said. "He got seat about 45 mins in when staff started shuffling people around!"
She added in another tweet that the train was "chock-a".
Separately, Charles Anthony, a Corbyn-supporting video journalist who shot the original film also released new footage and disputed the company’s account.
“Video footage of Corbyn sitting down is after he filmed video. And after people got off,” he said in a series of tweets.
He also posted new footage of Mr Corbyn walking through a busy train corridor and of other passengers seating on the floor during the same journey.
It is not clear where passengers might have had the opportunity to get off the train for this to be true. The first scheduled stop of the 11am departure from London King’s Cross to Newcastle is York, at 12.50pm and well after the timestamp of the CCTV footage.
Separately, The Guardian newspaper also reports that one passenger interviewed after Virgin’s claims were made said “there were people standing in all the corridors”.
“Says she was sat in corridor with her two kids near him,” a journalist at the newspaper reported.
The passenger was said to “100 per cent back” Mr Corbyn’s story.

Re: Prime example of leftie lies and spin - corbyn on trains being full
I don't like Corbyn but I think he had a valid point to make.
Listening to a radio phone in this morning, regular train commuters said the state of the Virgin trains re overcrowding is a nightmare.
Pre booked seats get sat in, some people have to upgrade to first class because of this, trouble flares when people are asked to move...so they give in and just upgrade. Staff on trains can never be found, people are packed in like sardines etc etc.

No it didn't, it showed the reserved tickets but couldn't go low enough to show what was on the seats. You can wiggle all you like, people there are backing him to the hilt and most of them not Labour supporters but pissed off Virgin train travellers.

Re: Prime example of leftie lies and spin - corbyn on trains being full
Well, it seems Richard Branson is pretty desperate and has reasons for trying to pretend Jezza was lying:
A public attack on a politician is a risky gambit for a businessperson, even when they are as well-known and publicly admired as Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson.
Bankers, energy company bosses and most recently Sir Philip Green bear the scars of clashes with elected representatives in which the private sector normally comes off worse.
On Tuesday, however, Branson took on Jeremy Corbyn over his claims he hadn't been able to find a seat on a Virgin train.
Branson tweeted stills from CCTV footage that appeared to show the Labour leader walking past empty seats on his way to record a video lamenting the poor service provided by the privatised railway. Now Jeremy Corbyn's campaign team have hit back.
Why did Branson plunge in - and why nearly a week after the incident? There are some interesting pieces of context that might explain why the Virgin boss was so keen to get involved.
First, Branson has never been slow to fight off attacks on his - and Virgin's credibility.
Two decades ago he staked his reputation in two high-profile libel trials, the first against British Airways over the "dirty tricks" affair, and the second against Guy Snowden, then chairman of the American gambling technology company GTech.
Branson said Snowden had offered him a bribe, and won the ensuing trial, as he did the case against British Airways.
Second, Corbyn's call for rail nationalisation is one of the few of his policies that has an appeal to a wide range of voters. Privatisation has seen record numbers of passengers, new trains and the revival of what was a declining mode of transport, but it has also brought high fares, fat cats and, recently, damaging strikes that have paralysed commuter routes.
There is a common feeling that nationalisation, a return to the "good old days" of British Rail, would make the problems go away.
Branson and his fellow private rail operators - notably Stagecoach, which owns 90% of the Virgin East Coast franchise where Corbyn tried to find a seat - are eager to kill this idea as quickly as possible. An attack on its most vocal proponent fits the bill.
Third, the east coast line is under financial pressure. Stagecoach recently described its performance as "challenging" which may be an understatement.
It and Branson promised to pay the government a £3bn premium over the life of the franchise, a promise that analysts think will require the company to hit annual revenue growth targets of 8-12%.
The best estimate is that it is achieving only half that. The east coast has been a graveyard for previous operators - both GNER and National Express had to hand back the keys after making over-optimistic promises on revenue.
One other factor may have weighed on Branson's mind. The old enemy - British Airways - had a fantastic day of PR yesterday, with a 747 sporting a gold nose cone carrying the British Olympic team back from the Brazil games.
It's not far-fetched to speculate that Branson, itching for an opportunity to knock BA out of the headlines, spied the row with Corbyn, and felt the opportunity too good to miss.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37175038
And now the Data Watchdog is looking into it, Branson ain't gonna be a happy bunny.

What are you talking about? They had 2nd class tickets and IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE to sit in reserved seats and you can be fined for it.Tommy Monk wrote:Maybe corbyn and his team should reveal what tickets they had...?

People on Virgin trains doing that journey have to put up with those conditions every day with fares that are astronomical. Branson hates the fact Jez is calling for the re-nationalisation of the railways so they can be run for the people, not to make millionaires richer.

And it is perfectly ok to sit in reserved seats if nobody is sitting there...
People on Virgin trains doing that journey have to put up with those conditions every day with fares that are astronomical. Branson hates the fact Jez is calling for the re-nationalisation of the railways so they can be run for the people, not to make millionaires richer.

Hahahahahaha I had to green you for the attention span comment!! That's hilariously true. I do bore easily and dont really care enough normally, but today the hypocrisy had to be pointed out.

You can st in a reserved seat but must give it up if asked to by the person who reserved it. £200 fine if you don't.

Re: Prime example of leftie lies and spin - corbyn on trains being full
Can someone show me the unreserved passenger seats that Corbyn walked right past?
And I didn't see Corbyn having a tantrum during his discussion on the NHS either. I saw him getting irritated that some people wanted to discuss a train ride on a Virgin train when the discussion was about the sorry state of the NHS which is something we surely want to discuss and how it should be dealt with. Anyone disagree that that is what should have been the topic and the most important issue on the agenda?

He had a tantrum, just because you are a labour supporter doesn't mean you have to blindly agree with Corbyn's every utterance. You are allowed independent thought!

Specsavers?
I asked for shots of him walking past rows of unreserved seats not any seats that may be available in the Foodbar which is a carraige on the train set aside for passengers who have bought a ticket and who are planning to have a meal or a snack with refreshments. So if Corbyn wasn't intending to do that then obviously he would look for a seat further down the line. And anyway it isn't clear if any seats in the Foodbar are not occupied by kids or have luggage on them. In fact looking closely I can just see the edge of a kid peeping out from one of them.
Virgin have been asked to provide CCTV shots from the corridors and the areas betewen the carraiges and after 2 days - no answer.
The real liars are Virgin and the gullable who believe everything that the corporate mogusls tell them to believe. It is expected of them after all.
Support Corbyn and the pasengers who have verified that what Cotbyn has said is bang on the money.
I've had a word with Jeremy he has given me the thumbs up
.
Now where are thse rows of 'unreserved seats?

I thought he had actually admitted that he did walk past empty seats?
He made a mess of trying to prove a point. Pity he didn't think it out better....maybe get on the train at peak time when there is a REAL problem with overcrowding and overbooking.

You can't reserve seats in the Foodbar. They're there for people who want to have a meal.
Now where are all those rows of unreserved seats?

He said there were some single seats but he wanted to sit with his wife so he kept looking and didn't find any so by that time they were probably filled so he sat on the floor along with other passengers who support what he said.
I travelled about four years ago Edinburgh to Piccadilly in Manchester to a meeting in the office block right next to the station. The train was quiet when it left Edinburgh but ended up packed as we got closer to Manchester. On the return journey it was packed right drom the start and there was someone sitting in my reserved seat. I asked him to move and the cheeky git asked me to show him my ticket proving it was mine. I told him to move his arse which he did and he stood for a couple of stops and then got off. It's actually quite chaotic at the start as people are shuffling around looking for seats.
Still remember looking out the train window as we drew into Manchester at the upside down building wher the top is bigger than the bottom. What was that building called?

Give up Tommy. Virgin lied to protect their reputation. Never mind, the RW are doing exactly as they are expected to do - support the corporate moguls and call Corbyn and the passengers who say Corbyn told the truth and it's Virgin that are lying.

So he admits there were plenty of seats that he chose not to sit in... and then admits that he didn't know for sure that all the empty seats had been filled when he chose to sit on the floor!!!
And you wonder why labour are accused of lies and spin...!!!???

Photoshop anyone...?
Heavy pixelated areas around the added 'foodbar' logos...
Plus... if you think that isn't clear enough... look at the first bloke sitting down on right hand side... the seat is a totally different colour to the rest of seats!!!
Lies and spin are the tools of the lefties!!!

Just keep supporting the corporate moguls and call the pasengers who say Corbyn was telling the truth liars. It's expected of the RWs so we'll leave it at that then.
