Dear Ben: Avatars
On reading the threads it appears that when you changed the size of the avatar box, not only does it mean that some people can't see all the post and the avatar is far too big, but now 2 people (HT and Syl) have said they can't see youtubes, Syl sees them as a black line and now HT has said she can only see a black box. Could you be kind enough to put everything back the way it was, pretty please?

Re: Dear Ben: Avatars
Just pointing out that clearly there is actually nothing wrong with the forum and cleary its something wrong with the individuals systems they are using, as why is not everyone effected?
Maybe its down to what window version you are using
Who knows, but the immediate presumption its down to any changes by Ben just really makes me chuckle

Re: Dear Ben: Avatars
There is none on mine, but since Ben changed the avatar size people have been having problems with seeing all the post and youtubes. Just asking Ben if he would put it back the way it was, would like to use my avi, but it's too big now he has changed it and even if I make it smaller it goes on at the size Ben has set and blocks posts.

Re: Dear Ben: Avatars
and....throughout all this I never had problems with the avatar size either....
been and had a look on the admin page and all these settings are global, which means they "should" affect everyone similarly.
just a thought...do any of those affected know how to clear their cache?

How about these then,
160px by 160px
Or 170 X 170?
Or I could make it bigger still.
Tested them on my avvi, no probs.
I have to say, the 3 people whose avatars appeared overly large to others, all 3 looked normal size on my lappy.
I do have the youtube problem tho - no vid visible, just a black stripe.

Yipper, Quill/WYwolifie and Eddied kicked these issues around yesterday!
My PC {window10} had those avatars huge like Eddie was saying - it wasn't until later that the youtube video's went to that long black rectangle bar = solid black.
My tablet the avatars looked normal but zero youtube clips!
Syl adjusted her avatar down to very small earlier this morning; she said it looked really odd and out of proportion on her tablet but on mine & my PC it was NORMAL looking!
So there's something 'ODD GOING ON' for sure!

Avvies containing text are tricky cos they need to be big enough so that the words are legible.4EVER2 wrote:Jules wrote:

Not too sure what the youtube issue is but I suppose I can open YT url's in a separate window till the prob is resolved.

Re: Dear Ben: Avatars
None of this was an issue until our fearless leader decided to jack around with some control perimeters on his newest PC ...then no one knew WTF was happening but we sure couldn't read Sassy's - Syl's posts - well not the first three words anyway
It's been a real strange / convoluted mess!

I have the same problem. No youtube at all, and overlap on the avvies.

Re: Dear Ben: Avatars
I logged back in tonight to see if I could sort out the Youtubes on here....I cant and they are still showing up here as long black boxes.
My avi was fine till yesterday, It looked fine to me, as did Sassys, though others said they were too big. I have halved the size of mine, but to me it looks very small and distorted now.
I'm on windows 10 too btw.

WHEN I see problems like this moving around between users, devices, and time of day, I have to suspect that the problem lies either with Forumation's master system -- or with the internet itself (i.e. with some of the ISPs, or the telecomm' carriers..) -- rather than at either the source (this Newsfix site..) or the destination (end user, and their device..).
I HAVEN'T used Windows, or IE, in years. Useless load of garbage that it is...
I noticed the problems with some avi's while using a tablet, with a Chrome browser;
And I've been having ongoing prob's with posting pic's and videos for months..

Thank goodness for that. Perhaps people will be able to see youtubes now as well

Re: Dear Ben: Avatars
YouTube links don't always load for me. I think it happens a lot on the music threads where there are lots to load.

Re: Dear Ben: Avatars
If it's a music thread, takes a long time for me as well. I think the problem is people not being able to see youtubes on threads where they were not music and there were no others, ie kinetic energy thread.

And the longer that thread is allowed to grow the slower it will be to load

Re: Dear Ben: Avatars
Perhaps there should be a limit on music threads before another is started? We want the music threads, they are fun, but waiting for them to load, isn't lol

That's why I started a number "two" for one of them.
I'll keep an eye and only let them reach about two or three pages from now on.
