American bands and artists
Pearl Jam are Jane of my top bands. Eddie vedder is one of my all-time favourite singers.
I love this song and love the idea of "even flow"

Re: American bands and artists
I can't have this Amercian artist thread without mentioning, (should've been first), REM
I don't know why, but I absolutely love this song, it just paces along and I play it a lot. I love the "wagga wagga wagga" sound in the chorus. (I'm a music freak and these things please me)
REM are superb. Michael Stipes is unique.
What's your frequency Kenneth?

Disturbed are actually a heavy thrash metal band.
I guess the band didn't expect a worldwide hit of a 50 year old melancholic folk song, played with timpany drums and bass cello!!
The result is spellbinding.

Have to confess, first time I have listed to it. Thought it was spell binding and thought provoking all at the same time

This one is for my very good friend Sassy.
The lyrics are particularly poignant and meaningful - YOU CAN take control of your life, and win, despite all the brickbats and obstacles life can hurl at you.
Hope you enjoy this.

Re: American bands and artists
Certainly did Andy, many thanks. Always liked that and when life gets you, you have to come out fighting:
"Fight Song"
Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
And all those things I didn't say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong
I'll play my fight song
And I don't really care if nobody else believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me
Losing friends and I'm chasing sleep
Everybody's worried about me
In too deep
Say I'm in too deep (in too deep)
And it's been two years
I miss my home
But there's a fire burning in my bones
Still believe
Yeah, I still believe
And all those things I didn't say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?

Re: American bands and artists
Love me some Ben Folds! I went to see one of his shows one time, and my friends and I waited near the tour bus to get some autographs.
Just to gauge the level of fun he'd be having that night, I checked out the rest of the Folds groupies -- all male. Poor Ben ...

The man can flat-out play a piano. I was worried he wouldn't be as good live, if anything he was better.
Re: American bands and artists
I think he was better. Plus the way they just go into random non benfold's songs, you can tell not only him but the backing band are true pros

The Shaggs, 1968 -- still about 1,000 years ahead of their time ...
Here, you might find this a bit more listenable (it's really pretty, actually):
