Nearly All Kebab Shops Are Disgusting, Dirty & Extremely Dangerous
14th January 2014
That's my opinion, I've always thought that, and it probably goes for Indian curry houses too.
What do you think?
The investigation into 395 local authorities by Which?, using data obtained from the Food Standards Agency (FSA), revealed more than a third of high and medium-risk food businesses are not complying with safety rules.
The hygiene risk of a business was based on the type of food, the number of consumers at risk, the method of processing and confidence in the management.
Local authority rankings were based upon criteria such as the number of premises compliant with hygiene requirements, the number of visits performed by council inspectors and the percentage of premises yet to receive a risk rating.
Bexley in London was exposed as the worst-performing local authority, with five further London councils appearing in the bottom 10, including Ealing, Enfield, Harrow, Richmond upon Thames and Southwark.
The study revealed that overall, food testing fell by 6.8% from the previous year, while testing for correct labelling and presentation fell by 16.2%.
The figures showed no hygiene sampling at all was carried out by Bexley, Christchurch, Isles of Scilly, Medway, Tamworth, West Lindsey and West Yorkshire authorities.
Which? executive director Richard Lloyd, said: "No one wants another horse meat fiasco, so it is very worrying that local authority food checks are in decline.
"We want to see a more strategic approach to food law enforcement that makes the best use of limited resources and responds effectively to the huge challenges facing the food supply chain."

That's hardly a ringing condemnation...we know what we don't know??
My feeling is that it's probably like that diner with a fingerprint in the butter. A little edgy, but the food is phenomenal. I love kebabs, and it fits with a healthy diet. So, it's off-setting.

Well the thread title is bollox really since the article says nothing of Kebab shops or Indians specifically- though you might have mentioned 5/10 worst offenders were in London.
I've been to a few Kebab shops of an evening and countless curry houses all over the country and never had a problem- always spot on, gorgeous food

Should I just go ahead and change the title of this thread to "Foreigners are Filthy, Disgusting Subhumans Who Should Be Kicked Out"?
Re: Nearly All Kebab Shops Are Disgusting, Dirty & Extremely Dangerous
The report doesn't even mention kebab shops. Maybe a lot of them are Fish & Chip shops.

You would probably find it unbearably so, yes. I hate eating Mexican food made north of me, actually -- even in other states in the U.S. it's far too mild.
Then again, I also like to sprinkle this liberally over everything:

Holy crap, a Bhut Jolokia! Always wanted to try that, I bet it's great on tacos
What's the rest of the taste like (or have you been able to detect that through the heat yet)? I like the sweet-ish tang of habaneros.

I think that i've asked this question before....But is air conditioning cheaper than gas, in the US & OZ?

Re: Nearly All Kebab Shops Are Disgusting, Dirty & Extremely Dangerous
I think it's more expensive -- I haven't paid a gas bill in a while, as my last two apartments have been all-electric, but when I did it never seemed to cost as much.
My electric is a bit more expensive than average as well, because I have my power company's 100% renewable plan.

I think that it's common sense, that's it's going to cost people so much more on energy, if they live in a colder climate.
I think that the major corporations are exploiting that fact here in the UK, of course, i've found it very easy to switch plans, between one energy supplier to another on quite a regular basis, you can actually barter with them over prices and the on line duel fuel tariffs are always the best!
You just tell them how much you want to pay, within reason, and they just give it to you at what you say, by monthly direct debit!

Re: Nearly All Kebab Shops Are Disgusting, Dirty & Extremely Dangerous
There are a few smaller energy firms coming on line here in the UK, will be doing another switch very soon!

about the same most of us have reverse cycle aircon so it does both hot and cold.
(I just use a Fans at home, but most of my day is spent in an Aircon'd office)
We dont have the furnace/boiler things you apparently have in your buildings
@ben
quite similar to Habaneros crossed with a Trinidad Scorpion Chili. Taste is very complex, it is a mutlilevel heat for the first bit. I have some powder that i use so know the taste more from that, it is ridiculously hot, 1 teaspoon renders 1kg of meat inedible to non-chilli eaters. I normally use it to make 'my mexican' which is more like a texan meat and bean chili than real mexican.
The Fresh one was honestly more like drugs, after about 5 mins it stopped being hot because half my face went numb, as in unable to lift you eyebrows or control the corners of your mouth numb, very similar to after the dentist. (I have done this 'eat stupid hot thing' before and know just use half your mouth to limit damage but Bhut Jolokia is just insane)
And holy shit people are insane, because it is rated number 5 (the top 4 are cross breeds)

...Yesterday, the young woman living upstairs from us, knocked on our door...'have you got damp, in your bedroom' ????
...I told her that we've had it for years, but they will just blame it on condensation!
They got some cowboys to put in the damp course, and then it failed!
....So, they knew that there was damp here then!
She said....Well i will go to the CAB....I said good luck with that!!!!

You've got that Tex-Mex thing: Red meat and red sauces. Arizona, or Papago food, is much better. More delicate, with a variety of cheeses. Or, yes, Tijuana. Whatever you may say about Tijuana, it has Mexican sea food down to an art. The Sea Food restaurants along Avenida Revolution are to die for.

THE OWNER of a dirty takeaway in Gnosall - where pots and pans with food inside were stored on the floor - has been fined £2,000.
Shafique Ali, 38, manager of Bengal Spice, was prosecuted by Stafford Borough Council after environmental health inspectors found the kitchen floor and walls were filthy.
Stafford magistrates also heard raw meat was kept above fresh yoghurt, and two bowls of cooked rice were left out of a fridge for five hours.
Simon Turner, prosecuting for Stafford Borough Council, told the court the takeaway in Station Road had been warned about standards in April but continued to flout regulations .
“Environmental health officer, Helga Gray, returned to the premises in August because the council wanted to avoid prosecuting a business if it was putting the necessary standards in place,” he said.
“But she found Mr Ali had made little effort to comply with the advice and regulations, with coriander left in a hand wash basin, unclean thermometers, pots and pans with food inside being stored on the floor, and dirty walls and floors.” Mr Ali was was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay £350 costs when he admitted four breaches under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2006 between April and August this year.
After the hearing, Councillor Stan Highfield, cabinet member for environment and health, said: “Somebody could have become very ill because of the poor standards of hygiene at this business.
“I hope this prosecution sends a clear message to all food premises in the borough.
“They showed complete disregard to the advice of our environmental health officers and we take this very seriously as our first priority is the protection and safety of the public.
