Re: MORNING BREAKFAST / BRUNCH, What's Your Favorite >
Frittata is a favourite of mine (without potatoes) love scrambled eggs and spinach (got to be butter on that toast!) and LOVE LOVE LOVE French pastries but have to watch how many I eat.....id be the size of a house if I allowed myself to eat the 10 that I'd "need"
I really, like veggie sausages and scrambled eggs with a tomato, raw soinach and red onion salad with balsamic glaze stuff all over it.
But!
You can't beat fried eggs on toast with ketchup

Re: MORNING BREAKFAST / BRUNCH, What's Your Favorite >
My husband introduced me to the fine flavors of Quiché; nothing anyone in my family had ever made. Just figured since he was Canadian {foreigner} that was something unique to his family.
But I loved using my fresh garden spinach and the ability to toss just about anything into one and it was perfection for a Sunday Brunch, or even an evening meal too.
I've never been one for sweets in the morning or anything high in acids so that eliminated most breakfast fruits. But I do enjoy my eggs: sunny side up on toast - sunny side up on a pancake - sunny side up on some hash browns - sunny side up with a side of bacon; did I say I like my eggs SUNNY SIDE UP Like my yoke to OOOZE.
I've never been fond of anything smothered with syrup; don't know why, but I just don't care for syrup ...maybe it's just too sweet. But I'll smear jelly on my pancakes or French toast or roll them up around a sausage link or a slice of bacon - like a sandwich.
Nicko - what's that 'BROWN SAUCE' you mentioned on your breakfast menu?

Fever2, there are two brands of brown Sauce witch have cornered the market in Britain, Daddies and HP. I use either, depending what the Wife brings in. They are a mixture of spices and other stuff.

4ever eggs sunny side up are the best food in the world
If I'm unable to face a dinner, or I'm feeling a bit blah, I can always eat my sunny side up eggs and yes, that yolk has to burst open.
I actually get depressed if I break a yolk or overcook it.

I wasn't sure you were talking about an actual 'SAUCE' or perhaps a 'GRAVY' ...so I did 'BING' it and found this >nicko wrote:Fever2, there are two brands of brown Sauce witch have cornered the market in Britain, Daddies and HP. Google Brown Sauce.
The English / Irish version of Brown Sauce >Brown sauce is a traditional condiment served with food in the United Kingdom and Ireland, normally dark brown in colour. The best known brown sauce is HP Sauce, a spicy and tangy variety. Brown sauce is traditionally eaten with meals and dishes such as full breakfasts, bacon sandwiches, chips, and baked beans.
The ingredients include a varying combination of tomatoes, molasses, dates, apples, tamarind, spices, vinegar, and sometimes raisins or anchovies. The taste is either tart or sweet with a peppery taste similar to that of Worcestershire sauce. It is similar to brown sauce marketed as steak sauce in the United States.
A combination of spirit vinegar (or water) and brown sauce, known simply as "sauce" or "chippy sauce", is popular on fish and chips throughout Scotland and other parts of the UK. The sauce itself is reported to have been popularised beginning in Edinburgh.
A recipe for "sauce for steaks," composed of ale, wine, ketchup, pepper, and butter, appeared in an 1862 cookbook published in London.
The American version of Brown Sauce/Steak Sauce >
Just far too many brand names and unique recipe types to c & p but there's a
plenty to chose from.

What is it with you 'MEN' and your favorite sauces/dressings; my hubby had never had thisnicko wrote:Can't do better than HP, IN IT AND ON IT!
prior to meeting me - {becoming involved with a single parent} but once he tried it
...well it became the 'end all - be all' for everything: taco's/burgers/salads/steaks/FF's/he'd even insist that I keep a small jar in his cooler pack so if he had to eat out somewhere he could put some on his burger/sandwich he'd have to order in a Drive-thru!
Between the two of them {hubby & son} they'd start stashing the jars around the house just so they'd have some in RESERVE ...I never used it unless I made a cold Gazpacho summer salad - which wasn't that often!

Whew, that's a tough one; it's not really a strong tomato flavor parse - but you know that there is some tomato base in there - it's not really spicy at all but it's does enhance raw veggies so thoroughly and that's why I LOVE to make my cold gazpacho salad with it.
Just cut up what ever you have an abundance of and toss in some Frozen: peas/corn {both white & baby yellow}, shredded carrots, chopped celery, cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli, loads and loads of different types of tomatoes, summer squash, and a huge jug of this Dorothy Lynch dressing and refrigerate.
Just serve it up in a bowl and keep adding more fresh & frozen veggies back into the juice as needed. We used to keep this on hand for days on end ...it's just that dang good and so delightful on those hot nights when no one wants to eat something warm or volunteer to do the cooking.
That's the only way I'd eat it; but my son & hubby swore it went with EVERYTHING -

It does sound rather nice - I like the idea of a cold veggie "soup" that you can add to.
We get an awful lot of produce from the US at our local store so I'll look out for it. I'm a bit of a condiment freak if I'm honest, love mustards and sauces and dips.
Have you true any of the Econa sauce range? Living with West Indians / Bajans / Jamaicans my palate insists on these sauces.

Oh, I've very attuned to Asian inspired flavorings and love those sauces.
I'm learning about the Jamaican flavoring from a recent new transplant into our neighborhood {his wife is a grand-daughter of a good friend} so I'll cook up some large amount of chicken breasts and send a chopped up care package his direction and he returns a portion with some additives.
Sometimes rice - sometimes noodles - often a flavor & seasoning new to my taste buds. He's one of few people that I know enjoy GOAT & LAMB as much as I do.

Yes, sir; we raised goats: milk and meat and traded our goat meat with a sheep farmer down the road from our farm. Yipper, slaughter time: pigs, goats, sheep, cow, deer - chickens - ducks - it was what keep all 8 of us fed.Stormee wrote:4EVER2 wrote:Oh, I've very attuned to Asian inspired flavorings and love those sauces.

"returns a portion" Hmmmmmm, reminds me of the 'Carry On Films'.
Have you seen how they slaughter goat and lamb?

All these things I'm learning; Ok, what's that 'black pudding', something your Mrs's makes up special just for you?Stormee wrote:Fried bekky is ace
bacon, eggz, sossidges, black pudding, mushrooms, tinned tomatoez, fried bread and fried spudz if there is any left over from previous day.
Thick bread and butter to soak up.
At least 2 mugz strong Yorkshire tea.
And left over boiled taters - always got saved up for frying the next meal - and mashed tater's left over could become fried patties dipped in egg mixture or made into biscuits! We rarely ever threw any left overs out.
Things became a Breakfast HASH = a little of everything that was just 2 small to be one single unit.

My Christmas breakfast is always Eggs Benedict but I like spinach under the eggs and prefer to cook the spinach the night before, no water, just put the spinach in the pan with knob of butter, salt, pepper and nutmeg, then cook until all the liquid goes. If there is a little left it drains overnight so that it doesn't water down the hollandaise sauce.

Not many people make black pudding anymore, it's easy to buy.

That's why I ask; like what I would think is a 'brown sauce' over here would have been a GRAVY concoction and when Niko gave me some brand names then I had a better grasp of what it was he was referring too.
But it's a line of communication and Stormee and I don't really chat about a lot but this might be something we have to CHAT ABOUT!
Commonality if the sock puppet didn't MIND!

Yes, the question was directed to you Stormee, since you'd placed the item in your post ...and I was curious as to your wife using an old family recipe or something that was unique just for you - I'm aware of 'PLUM PUDDINGS' and have had some various forms of that but not that name especially = Black Pudding!

it scones and jam.... and it should come with Cream ..... heathen
served with a cup of tea...
well one good thing i will say about England is they have good breakfast.
Pancakes and bacon and fruit?
that just seem like random things on a plate with no coordination.
bacon and eggs is my preference, otherwise toast and vegemite
Suicide by vegemite, levels of vegemite

Back to OP
4ever - British Brown sauce isn't quite like our steak sauce. It's a little bit fruitier and has a different sort of tanginess. I am sorry that I can't describe it better but I hate it. Luckily we can get it over here at our local grocery store so Mr. C is a happy camper. He gets through about 2-3 bottles every 2 months. YUCK. The HP stands for Houses of Parliament btw. Daddies does both a brown and red (ketchup) sauce although it is sweeter and spicer than HP and I have to admit I don't like the ketchup. I prefer Heinz organic.
As to my favorite breakfast I have both a British and American version
1) British - or really Scottish. 2 Eggs sunnyside up, 2 pieces of square sausage, 1 lincolnshire sausage, 2 rashers unsmoked back bacon, tattie scone, mushrooms, fried tomato, heinz baked beans and fried bread. And maybe a crumpet.
I think I am going to cry now.
2) American - 2 eggs sunny side up (scrambled or poached is 2nd), sausage patty, biscuit and proper sausage cream gravy, sourdough toast and a side of bacon done crispy.
In real life during the week, I have a vegetable and fruit smoothie and maybe a hardboiled egg and the above is for once on the weekend.

Re: MORNING BREAKFAST / BRUNCH, What's Your Favorite >
Pot of yoghurt, couple of bicuits and a cuppa for me
brunch/lunch often skipped ...especially if I'm doing anything active....otherwise a) it makes me want to sleep and b) gives me gut rot but in anycase something light...a sarnie
evening meal is the days "full meal" anything from a salad to a full roast to a fry up....
later evening ...ie when I've done on here usually a bowl of cereals and milk.....
Not...as my diabetic nurse keeps ranting at me the BEST regime to use...but it seems to work for me OK.....
no nasty blood sugar excursions.....
(funny....how to send your diabetic nurse into fits....tell her you swallow your metformin down with a big swig of "full sugar" coke......then watch her face.... )
