This Video Hilariously Explains 'The Friend Zone' And How To Get Out Of It
The "friend zone" is a situation in which one of two friends wishes to enter into a romantic or sexual relationship, while the other does not. So if you're the lovelorn person who dreads the situation, here's a video... that will not help.

Friends that have sex but know that don't actually want to date.
I think being a 'friend with benefits' can be a bit like the friend zone for chicks, where the guy doesn't love her but is still happy to have sex with her and be 'friends'.
But there is also the case of 2 people going 'you'll do for now' and they are more short term relationships of convenience between 2 emotionally mature people

So if a bloke and a woman are friends, hang out together, and have sex, how is that different to them "dating"?

No commitment.
Take a look at a film entitled, Friends with Benefits (2011), a romance/comedy starring Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake

I think, as long as it's consenual, what's wrong with it?
I've had a friend in the past and we benefited each other immensely
It only becomes a problem if one of them falls in love.

cause you both free to try and find someone else. including other one night stands. it's often more a mutual agreement that if neither of you gets lucky at the club you'll meet up after.

I always thought those free-love communes where you went into whichever room you fancied at the end of the night, were a brilliant idea.
I'm sure though, people must end up with a favourite? Isn't that just a natural human thing?

I think so. plus jealousy and love, even if both are open and understanding at first, i think after time someone ends up being more emotionally invested than originally agreed upon.
it is just human and or social mammal behaviour

So if no one better is around, you'll do? Couldn't be doing with that.

It sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

Well it did work for a while (we were both in our twenties and single etc) but he started to like me more than I liked him.
He met a girl and moved in with her and still used to contact me, but by then I was with someone else.
He had lovely brown eyes. Haven't seen him in years.

If you're just friends with a bloke, surely that means you don't fancy him. If you sleep with him, doesn't that mean you fancy him? I don't see how it can work really.

you can find someone physically attractive and even like them as a person, but know you don't want to spend the rest of your life with them.
i agree it is a recipe for disaster... but it can still be fun while it lasts

That used to be called "going out with someone for a while". This new-fangled terminology is just silly.
