Here in the US it's as bad as the n-word, so I'd at least prefer not to see it used in headlines.
Re: Tory/Liberal c****!
It's actually quite accepted in Britain. I've gotten used to it by now.
The term I detest is Penis. Lol...that's a truly ugly word.

Re: Tory/Liberal c****!
Yes, I've been made to understand this term is far less offensive in other countries, but it is quite a vile term here in the U.S. and is never used playfully. It's always used in the context of bashing women over here.
Which, of course, gets me to thinking about languages and how they've spread through the world. If we went by country with the most speakers:
* English would be called "American"
* Spanish would be called "Mexican"
* Portuguese would be called "Brazilian"

Well, as it has a different meaning over there, out of respect, i won't use it again.

Don't get me wrong, I understand how it's used as a basically different word in this clip:
... than it was by Hillary-Clinton-hating Republicans in 2008 who created the anti-Clinton organization "Citizens United Not Timid" to deride her as they worked against her:

It might be widely used in common vocabulary by the underclass widely represented on here like scatman.
I disagree Quill about its use in general parlance amongst the more educated people.
I think you call the underclass trailer trash, Scatman aspires to be trailer trash, but would need to be promoted several levels to get there. :D

I agree that it would have been worse, but the Liberals have sold out over many issues, they have agreed all the spending cuts so couldn't really give a stuff about the poor.
I like the video, each to their own i suppose.

The Liberals pushed through the pupil premium; have raised the lower income tax threshold so that lowest earners keep more of their money, and although the did sell out on Tuition Fees, they were instrumental in ensuring that the amount a graduate would have to earn before paying them back was higher (£21,000 a year now I think) and at a lower rate than before. The Tories would have cut far more on their own. Of course the Liberals care about the poor, but they are the minor party and are given far less credit and far more abuse than they deserve.

They have agreed the next round of spending cuts, that's unforgivable imo.

We were talking about vocabulary, Lurker. Pay attention.
I dislike the sound of penis because it is a harsh sound, and seems to suggest urination...hardly romantic. Lol.
Cunt is French in origin, and appears to be originally a legitimate word. It is a reference to the vagina, in circles where it is not taboo to discuss such things. It is prevalent in much of the chivalrous poetry of the Court of Kathrine of France, wife of Henry V. It's quite shocking when you read a poem of a chivalrous knight, trying to woo a maid by discussing how her **private bits** move him, but there it is.
The term comes down to us in the form of several quite legitimate words. "Cunning," for example, is a word that would be used in polite company anywhere. It means skillful in deception, as in the deceptive art or skill of a woman.

Actually, the above term is SAXON in origin and was originally used as the noun for the little pouch or bag the (long round) scythe sharpening stone was kept in whilst on ones person..
having seen one and having observed the act of putting said stone into said bag, the allusion is obvious....and is why it comes down to us today in its present form. The saxons Also realised the allusion and used that term in the same way we did...but with no sense of shame...it was just the name it was...

In this country it's mostly a term of abuse directed towards a vulgar/nasty/disagreeable person...Like Ben said, it has a different meaning which would depend on which country you live in, i said that i would use it again to preserve cultural sensiblities. :D

@catman
It is pretty common usage here, still considered the worst of the swear words. Until you go multilingual ::%::
It has both meanings here, a woman's bits and "a vulgar/nasty/disagreeable person" The Skit I tried to steal the joke from is basically 2 labourers working the boss Comes down and tells them they need to work back until the work is finished then leaves, the younger of the workers looks to where the boss went as says 'Cunt' the older worker with out batting an eyes says, "nuh mate he's not a cunt... cunts are useful"
Come on ::troll:: Some one has to help me resist the Grammar Police ::resmahauth:: ::resmahauth:: ::resmahauth:: ::resmahauth::

I"ve seen that, grumpy. It is said that it comes from old Norse kunta. For example, wikipedia says:
Wikipedia wrote:
Scholars are uncertain of the origin of the Proto-Germanic form itself.[8] In Middle English, it appeared with many spellings, such as coynte, cunte and queynte, which did not always reflect the actual pronunciation of the word. There are cognates in most Germanic languages, such as the Swedish, Faroese and Nynorsk kunta; West Frisian and Middle Low German kunte; Middle Dutch conte; Dutch kut & kont; Middle Low German kutte; Middle High German kotze ("prostitute"); German kott, and perhaps Old English cot. The etymology of the Proto-Germanic term is disputed. I
Sorry, but I am one of those who dispute this conclusion. I have translated too much ancient French, and seen it all to frequently, to accept the theory of a germanic origin.
The other argument is that it is Proto-Indo-European, coming from Latin and down to the French and others:
wikipedia wrote:Relationships to similar-sounding words such as the Latin cunnus ("vulva"), and its derivatives French con, Spanish coño, and Portuguese cona, or in Persian kun (کون), have not been conclusively demonstrated. Other Latin words related to cunnus are cuneus ("wedge") and its derivative cunēre ("to fasten with a wedge", (figurative) "to squeeze in"), leading to English words such as cuneiform ("wedge-shaped").
I dispute the former claim because there is absolutely no proof of the germanic link. Perhaps wiki favours the Norse word because of England and Scotland's early affiliations with the Saxon language. However, up until the time of Edward III, the upper classes of England spoke French. They also did most of the writing. Henry V was the grandson of Edward III, and most likely spoke French as well. The literature of the Court of his wife, Katherine of France, was clearly French. The Latin term cunnus is a direct reference to the female vulva. For that reason, I think the French origin of the word is the more persuasive.
It is quite obvious that the root of the word is Latin. Of course, I have already mentioned the derivative term, "cunning," which shares the same Indo-European root. There is also the direct link to the word, cunnilingus, which is clearly French/Latin in origin. Lingus, in Latin, means tongue.
