There is no such thing as racism without a history.  I readily admit that Qwabe insulted the white lass.  Was it racism?  I don't think so.  I believe it was reflexive anger in response to racism, not his.

Now if you want to discuss insults, and whether they are justified, and if they are directed at the correct person, there is probably more to the story.

But it's not racism.  There can be no racism without history.

  Yes as a matter of fact, I started early on as a lawyer for the NAACP, working on desegregation suits.  I also have a doctorate and taught race relations (among other things) at Rutgers University and the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the City University of New York and the University of Arizona.

It's interesting that you haven't once asked me about my own conclusions and judgments in the matter.  Who knows?  Behind it all I could be agreeing with you?  All of this discussion has been about how to conduct a rational discussion about the incident...how to detach racism from discussion about racism.

Er no - he said she "burst into typical white tears". I know what it means. Actually, she was having a rough time because her mother is ill and she didn't need some arsehole having a go at her for being white. He thought that it was really funny that she burst into tears because of their fuckwittery. Then when a male colleague stuck up for her, they had a go at him too, and chased him "back to do his job". He then threatened to pick on other white people.

Look...see, eds.  She't trying to bolster the history of the episode.  You can't have a situation without describing that situation, and reliving the details.  Ragg's rendition falls a bit short because it lacks a few hundred years.  

But the logic is the same...you need to have a history.
