It's nearly May but it's SNOWING in London: Capital is hit by blast of 'thundersnow' as band of Arctic weather sweeps south - and it's going to last all week

   Forecasters warn unsettled picture will continue for the rest of the week with temperatures staying in single figures
   Thunder, lightning and sleet showers are expected with some heavy snow forecast for northern parts of the country
   Snow falls in London and parts in the south as people wrap up warm from the cold with hats and winter clothing
   Today is the latest it has snowed in UK for 19 years when more than 200 weather stations recorded it on May 6, 1997
Snow and sleet has fallen in many parts of the UK as temperatures struggle to get into double figures with the prospect of a Spring-like May a long way off.

It's almost May but forecasters are warning the unsettled picture will continue for much of the week with freezing conditions in many parts.

Thunder, lightning and sleet showers are expected with some in northern areas witnessing heavy snowfall, including on the North Yorkshire Moors and parts of Scotland...

We have had bright glossy snow, sun and now thunder.

It's been more like January here, just not as dark.

Cold grey sky here at the moment. It keeps changing pretty quickly.

It looked as if the sun was back for an instant then, now back to dark.

It didn't even look like snow either. It looked like small balls of polystyrene.

I remember years ago it snowed in June...but we then went on to have a lovely summer.

We've had wind, rain, snow and then this pm a violent hailstorm that covered the patio with hail until it was sheet ice.  Absolutely crazy!

I have alternated over the last two weeks from wearing strappy sandals to fur lined boots.....there is no middle ground at all.

I know, got a fleece on today!   I have a small freezer in the kitchen and a large one in the sheds, there is path to them which is covered, the same as the car port.  Had to go to the one in the sheds, nearly got blown away and froze in those short minutes.   My friend is going to Turkey for a holiday on Saturday, one of my other friends is going back to S.Africa the same day, wish I could go with either!  Have loads of small vegetable plants I have grown from seed in the unheated greenhouse, hope thay cope ok.

They probably will survive...it's the frost that's the killer so if they are protected they should do OK.

I have some bedding annuals to plant but they are also staying in an unheated garage (it has a big back window so they are getting light) but they are too delicate to be planted out.

My grandsons other nan has gone camping.

The Vance Air Force Base doppler radar picked up on birds taking off when they felt the earthquake.

...these are called freight train thunderstorm systems
 --- lining up to dump bad weather on top of the same
area for hours upon hours!  Might be a real long night!

It must be very scary to see something possibly devastating heading your way....good luck 4Ever, I hope you miss the worst of it.

The hail is back, banging on the conservatory roof like a whole pack of drum majorettes are playing on it!

Not here, it's just cold

To be honest, it's cosy in there and can see the weather over the fields, makes me feel part of it.

Yes, indeed...my area needed rain; and
it started raining around 6:15pm - lightening
hit a transformer around the corner - LOUD and
shower of sparks - brown out for a while - hail arrived
at 8pm along with more wind and more loud lightening!!!
Poor 3 poopers all trying to get up on my pillows, on top of
one another.  Woke up at 10pm, another loud lightening crack -
better check the basement for water seepage - yipper! Water coming
in, so I used the shop vac and filled that up...and according to
the radar, we've got another 3-5 hours of this rain coming through.
But the good news: power was on so I could use the shop vac - didn't have
to go find more batteries for my dead flashlight - the
dogs hadn't made any messes on the piddle papers in the laundry room,
we were needing this glorious rain - just not all at the same night!

Hope the rain calms down soon....if you have much more we will have to start calling your area "England"

It's snowed off and on here all day. This morning lorries were stuck on some A road nearby because of the snow.

Apparently according to statistics, records show we have had more snowfalls in Spring than we have at Christmas.

It's been sunny and quite mild here Syl

Mild until about 2, then freezing and very windy.

This after noon was very warm and not windy here in London...

Well, we are now back to the rain lashing down and the wind howling.

Sunny, wind and sleet for about 10 minutes then sunny again

About 6am this morning it was like a winter wonderland here....huge snowflakes and it had settled covering all the cars and the gardens.

Now it's melted....and flipping freezing with an icy cold wind.
