This could be the beginning of the end for Scientology

I'd love to see this ruthless, exploitative cult brought to the ground!
A brewing power struggle between Lisa Marie Presley and Scientology leader David Miscavige could inflict crippling harm to the controversial “church.”
The only daughter of rock icon Elvis Presley has been slowly pulling herself away from Scientology, to which she was introduced as a child by her mother, since at least 2008, reported Tony Ortega.
Ortega, who served as executive editor of The Raw Story from 2013 until 2015, said Presley has quietly been orchestrating a damaging media campaign against Miscavige as the church slips further into long decline.
Miscavige’s father, Ron Miscavige, will release a “ruthless” memoir May 3 about his own life as the musical director of the hardcore Sea Org sect and his increasingly strained relationship with his son, and he’ll appear April 29 on a “20/20” episode devoted to Scientology.
His 55-year-old son has headed Scientology since founder L. Ron Hubbard’s death in 1986, and he maintains a close — and, according to sources — strange friendship with actor Tom Cruise, probably the most famous member of the church.
The elder Miscavige escaped — literally — four years ago from the church’s International Base near Hemet, California, and two heavily armed private investigators arrested about three years ago near his new home in Wisconsin told police they had been hired by the Church of Scientology to trail him.
Ron Miscavige decided to write the book after that — but first he called Presley, according to Ortega’s sources.
Presley has been nurturing doubts about Scientology for years, but Ortega reported she decided to leave after speaking with Ron Miscavige and others who had escaped Int Base — known as “The Hole” — where the church officials banish their enemies.

Cruise is a very shady character imo.
He left his first wife for Nicole Kidman.
His first wife Mimi Rogers, gave an interview saying she needed sex and he was unwilling or unable to oblige....she later back tracked.
Nicole Kidman and him adopted two children....just as they split she announced she was pregnant with his child...conveniently that child miscarried.
Katy Holmes, after all the gushing and declarations of everlasting love, eventually managed to break free and take their daughter with her.
All three now refuse to speak about their marriage and scientology, even though all three embraced it at the time.

Re: This could be the beginning of the end for Scientology
I have never liked him. Befroe all the stuff about Scientology got big, I always found him a bit....vain, shallow and self-involved in interviews.
Of course, that's only an impression one gets from an on-screen persona.
Still, as you say Syl, all those wives and all that silence?
Wasn't there a "story" about Katie Holmes horrific labour?

Re: This could be the beginning of the end for Scientology
After watching that scientology video last night I was googling various other stuff about scientology.
I watched an interview he gave with Oprah Winfrey (not the couch jumping one) one he gave after the birth of his daughter Suri.
She asked him had he heard the rumours that he wasn't the father...he answered and said the daughters birth had been reported in some papers and made it sound like the scene from Rosemarys baby...I can actually see why some people would doubt he was the dad.

Re: This could be the beginning of the end for Scientology
Well, I do not know the man {tom cruise} personally but if as his close friends and wives have alluded too about his narcissistic traits; then the position and near GOD LIKE persona that he holds within the Scientology hierarchy would fit right into his grandiose need to be self-aware.
Do any of you remember when he so publically bashed Brooke Shields for her going public for her mental health issues and how 'HE' trashed her and defamed her need for mental health help?
I was sooooo proud of her; not only for being honest about her postpartum depression but for standing up to his BS and bastardly public attack --- like he just became the awarded Master Degreed Professor of Mental Health!!!

Obviously we only know these people from their public persona and what others (supposedly friends and enemies) say about them.
But Brooke Shields has done a few chat shows over here, and she is witty and warm as opposed to Tom Cruise who says all the right things but not necessarily in the right order to make him seem...well...normal.

Then there was the death of John Travolta's son. He had seizures and had reportedly been taken off his medication. Scientology doesn't approve of medication.

He is another celebrity who has gone from seemingly 'norma'l to out and out creepy.
Madonna is another one...though to be fair she never really seemed 'normal' from the start.

I always found that movie, Eyes Wide Shut, kind of reflected Cruise and what his life might be like. I think he's really odd and a control freak. I bet his wives wouldn't dare spill.

Funny how people seem to grab the same perception of someone just from the TV. We can't all be wrong!
That couch-jumping interview he has with Oprah was.....cringeworthy

Ok, that was pretty dang interesting and those mega plantation/secured places that the inner circle are allowed to live/stay & work at --- well our government could take lessons! But seriously --- I had 'NO IDEA' that this cult had become such a huge money maker!

Re: This could be the beginning of the end for Scientology
4Ever, I just watched "A fathers story"....very powerful.
Unfortunately with his chequered past it could be easy to discount most of what he says, but plenty other people agree with him. I believe he is being publicly discredited by the scientologists because he firstly managed to escape, and now he has written the book 'Ruthless'.
The 'disconnection' punishment is real...and very cruel.
The way members are watched and spied on, and prevented from leaving....it's all very sinister.
All in all the video is very interesting.

Back in my early 'Sci-Fi' days ---RON L HUBBARD was a author that I enjoyed --- I was clueless about his actually having a 'TRUE FAITH' called Scientology until the mid 90's. Then I was like; naaaaa, that's all some 'Hollywood' made up BS and nobody really thinks it a for-sure-thing? So how little did I know about that pyramid system/mega empire that was being built.
“Truth is stranger than fiction, but it is because Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities; Truth isn't.” - Mark Twain
Within my own family...we were occupied by a local OCCULT called the WAY COLLEGE OF EMPORIA and what it was doing to my oldest brother shortly after his return from Viet Nam; now that was one diabolical lunatic place in the middle of KS! "Come give us all of your $$$ and we'll show you the WAY", meanwhile you'll be doing manual labor on your hands & knees with nothing larger then a toothbrush and a bucket of stagnant water and stale bread and foul/out of date bologna sandwiches to eat - while your still working. And please sing a cheerful hymn while doing these tasks to please the lord thy god! Like to never got our brother the hell out of there and some of those people still have reunions just to remember "the good ole days"

If his son and the entire 'LEGAL TEAM' {spokes person} had just kept their mouth shut then the propelled push for book sales wouldn't have received the attention that this is getting --- so in a way; books sales are only getting better due to the way that Scientology has gone about trying to DISCREDIT 'RUTLESS'...Syl wrote: wrote:4Ever, I just watched "A fathers story"....very powerful.

I've watched about half of it, definitely worth checking out. I have a feeling that YouTube channel might be ordered to take it down, so I'm going to try to find a way to save it.

Yeah, but I don't have cable, and nobody on the other side of the pond is going to be able to check them out. I was looking for YouTube or the like.

I WOULDN'T exactly call them "pseudo", so much -- as rather a fringe breakaway cult, still loosely based on Judaism...
THE same way that Westbo Baptists could be described as (very) loosely based on Southern Evangelical groups (who were already a fruit loop mob, loosely based on Christian fundamentalism..).

I'll admit...I was shocked at how huge those facilities Ron L Hubbard had built and the preceding ones were too --- those are humongous locations!!! Guess I was accustomed to those days of Jim & Tammy Faye Baker and the PTL CLUB Fantasy Land Resort...gimme/hookers shtick on our TV sets daily. They were more upfront about their feud and criminal activities...

Yo wolfie
Very loosely based and heavily into the buying/recruiting your way up the chain of command, as well as taking classes that cost big bucks, buying their ridiculous red string bracelets etc...
I still stand by pseudo as well as cult. There are real seminaries and yeshivas that are teaching kabbalah which is a genuine form of Judaic mysticism. These Center people are just the same as Scientilogy, in my opinion, but with a very vague attachment to the real theology versus Scientology's totally made up fake science.
