Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
First topic message reminder :
I know this ruling happened in Portugal but I've posted here as it's just as much English news)
Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
The Portuguese detective who accused Madeleine McCann's parents of faking their daughter's abduction has won his appeal against a libel ruling.
Goncalo Amaral had been ordered in April last year to pay Kate and Gerry McCann €500,000 (£394,000) in damages.
The McCanns had stated they would put all the pay out money back into the search for their missing daughter, MailOnline reports.
The former detective has been embroiled in a libel battle after he wrote and published a book called The Truth of the Lie in 2008 where he claimed the McCanns lied about Madeleine's kidnapping after the three-year-old died in their Algarve apartment in 2007
The McCann's lawyer, Isabel Duarte, responded to this latest decision by saying: "I have just learnt that the three appeal court judges have decided to overturn the original decision in favour of my clients.
"It was a unanimous decision. The original decision has been revoked.
Search for Madeleine McCann continues
"I and the McCanns are obviously disappointed but I am not surprised because one of the judges ruled in favour of a previous appeal overturning a ban on the book."
Detective Chief Superintendent, Mike Duthie, from Scotland Yard's homicide squad said there was still hope Madeleine could be found alive.
Home Secretary, Theresa May, granted the Metropolitan Police a £95,000 budget to continue the hunt for the missing child for another six months.

Good news as far as I'm concerned. Everyone should have the opportunity to read what a police officer has to say about such a high-profile case.

Dunno? Wherever Gerry McCann was taking her when seen by the Smith family?
That alleged sighting was around 10pm, yes?
At around 9pm Gerry McCann checked on the children. At 9.30 Matthew Oldfield offered the check the children when he went to check his own. He didn't actually see the McCann children properly. At around 10pm Kate went to check and she raised that alarm at that time.
So if the man who the Smiths saw was Gerry McCann, he would have been missing from the table for some time and someone would surely have noticed. I presume he came back after the 9pm check? In addition to that, if Maddie was dead before 9.30, why would the McCanns have taken Matthew Oldfield up on his offer? They couldn't have known that he wouldn't actually look in the room properly. Also, if Maddie died after 9.30, why would the immediate reaction of Gerry McCann be to hide the body?
Isn't it implied in some quarters that Madeleine could have died just after 5.30pm as nobody saw her after that?

How do you think he could afford trials and appeals?
The dog was as seen by the video and written evidence clearly badly trained.
It even sniffed one of the toys, ignored it went off to other items and only later alerted to the toy.
That shows flaws, let alone how the dog was coached to come to the car.
Dogs are not foolproof and the fact you think they are based off a dog with only the owners claim to be expertly trained is flawed in istelf.
This is the problem with people who base most of their evidence claiming she is dead based off one single aspect
This poor dog, who's evidence when it boils down to, is based on faith and nothing more
Hope AmaralAmaral makes a fortune.
How do you know he can afford it?
Funny you don't accept what the dog found in the car. The McCanns did, they tried to explain it away as sweaty shoes, spoiled meat or dirty nappies. Of course we all would take dirty nappies and rotten meat with them when they moved house
Exactly, he can't afford it. All his assets were frozen and he is living on his Police Pension. He lost a hell of a lot through this family. This appeal was funded by family and friends in Portugal, and a large portion was raised through a Go Fund Me page set up by a lady called Leanne, who I think came from Birmingham. Last time I looked it was over £50,000, but they closed the appeal in October last year when it got to the amount he needed for his legal team.

That is interesting. As you have no view on people who might have been there
Be honest, you found them guilty before the evidence?

I dont even know what you are on about now. I'm talking about this recent appeal, which is what this thread is about. And I'm telling you how it was funded. Seriously, I'm going to leave it to someone else who has more patience than me to explain this situation to you.

Didn't the people who the McCanns were with give evidence? I presume Matthew Oldfield wasn't actually lying about going to check. The point is that if Maddie was dead and the McCanns knew it, they would hardly accept his offer, would they?
There were hints of sexual abuse too.
The Gasoar statements - two doctor friends of the mccanns who'd been in holiday with them befroe, made statements that David Oayne and Geryy McCann were making sexual "signals" about Madeleine.
Read the official statements here:

One night, on holidays, the adults, that is, the couples that I mentioned, were on a patio outside of the house where we were staying. We had been eating and drinking.
I was seated between Dave and Gerry who I believe were both speaking about Madeleine. I don't remember the conversation in its entirety, but it seemed they were discussing a possible scenario. I remember Dave telling Gerry something like "she", referring to Madeleine, "would do this".
When he mentioned "this", Dave was sucking on one of his fingers, pushing it inside and outside his mouth, while with the other hand he made a circle around his nipple, in a circulatory movement over his clothes. This was done in a provocative manner and carried an explicit insinuation in relation to what he was saying and doing.
I remember that I was shocked at this, and looked at Gerry, and also at Dave, to see their reactions. I looked around (page 4) as if saying "did anyone else hear this, or was it just me". There was a nervous silence registered in all the conversations and afterwards, everyone began talking again.

Grow up Nems, you had to lower the debate with youir immaturity, straight out of your old sassy school
This is the problem with people who are childish like you, because someone does not agree, you then insult. Its sums up your very limited intelligence. You make little imput to the debate,. go off hate as your reason to convict people and then have the other useful idiot chip in with zero points or facts. The next minute you are slagging off sassy you will come running off course
And that really is immature and quite pathetic
Why is it Nems you though cannot answer simple questions that you call your backup from the other forum, who even then ends up looking woeful to simple questions? I have loads of respect for FTL, but you are just some pathetic low life shit stirring muppet
The only thing you are good at is hunting in packs attacking people. On your own you would of course shit yourself when you use to, when you were buddies with the other idiot. Now I really suggest you grow up.
So why has Maddie never been declared dead, even though countless experts have been involved in the case?
Why have the parents not been arrested?

My child would not have been placed in that situation. EVER.
I have no empathy for the McCanns, none what so ever
The ones that we should feel for are the poor children of that hateful pair.
The point is being missed again, what matters is the Police know the evidence of the dog is inadmissible.
You then get emotional and allow anger to seep into our discussion
Please do not, I understand how and why you are angered over this, but would rather your views without that clouded judgement.
That is not knocking but seeing your reaction Nems
Like I said, most people have judged more off the night of them being out at dinner leaving them home alone
I can understand that, but you misread my point on about what matters to me and the police, because it is what matters to me in the end what is important to whether I think they are guilty or not, and that does not include anyone else, as it would not for you
Also you can answer my last post you ran away from NumptyNems

ALL the available evidence points to the same conclusion... there is absolutely NO evidence whatsoever to support any other scenario.
The available evidence is strong... but sadly just a few shreds short of being strong enough to secure a conviction...
