Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
I know this ruling happened in Portugal but I've posted here as it's just as much English news)
Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
The Portuguese detective who accused Madeleine McCann's parents of faking their daughter's abduction has won his appeal against a libel ruling.
Goncalo Amaral had been ordered in April last year to pay Kate and Gerry McCann €500,000 (£394,000) in damages.
The McCanns had stated they would put all the pay out money back into the search for their missing daughter, MailOnline reports.
The former detective has been embroiled in a libel battle after he wrote and published a book called The Truth of the Lie in 2008 where he claimed the McCanns lied about Madeleine's kidnapping after the three-year-old died in their Algarve apartment in 2007
The McCann's lawyer, Isabel Duarte, responded to this latest decision by saying: "I have just learnt that the three appeal court judges have decided to overturn the original decision in favour of my clients.
"It was a unanimous decision. The original decision has been revoked.
Search for Madeleine McCann continues
"I and the McCanns are obviously disappointed but I am not surprised because one of the judges ruled in favour of a previous appeal overturning a ban on the book."
Detective Chief Superintendent, Mike Duthie, from Scotland Yard's homicide squad said there was still hope Madeleine could be found alive.
Home Secretary, Theresa May, granted the Metropolitan Police a £95,000 budget to continue the hunt for the missing child for another six months.

Good news as far as I'm concerned. Everyone should have the opportunity to read what a police officer has to say about such a high-profile case.

Such a sad and fascinating case; since I'm unware of the local opinion over there in England...what is the consensus about her 'abduction or death'...do people still think that her parents had everything/anything to do with her disappearance?
This case {in so many ways} reminds me of the JonBenet Ramsey case and how her parents were vilified during this entire process...but the law enforcement messed up in so many ways as to be liable for abuse of power!

Yes I remember Jonbenet, I found that sad but interesting.
Over here, most people I ever ask have changed their minds over the years and now think the parents are guilty. The general consensus is, not sure what happened but they know "more than they're letting on"
This thread will turn into a debate about the facts but I don't think cadaver dogs lie and the parents response to the cadaver dogs was odd, to say the least.

You see its the above kind of dishonesty claiming most have changed their minds, when many of the people on here have argued against your views, but do not allow those facts to get in the way. You have your views which you are entitled to and the evidence on the dogs is if you had bothered to read conflicting to say the least, let alone it does not prove anything. Even the Police that viewed this evidence raised many questions over its conflict and many times the same dog failed to alert at all
It does not need to turn into anything, but it is poor to go off a biased view you hold to then claim then many agree with you, when there is a stark divide on opinion with this.

Well for all of the HYPE and law enforcements screw up on the Jon Benet case; I've always tried to leave the benefit of DOUBT open for the family members to NOT have been involved
But when the media showed those images of that dear little Madylnne McCann photos --- really choked me up and I avoided reading anymore details about this.
So I've been curious about how this all played out in England; both in the media and on the streets...
Granted, our ability to rely on those 'dog sniffing detective canines' seems to have become the Tell - All for who to keep listed as suspects...yet there have been instances where the DOGS hit on a 'FALSE POSITIVE' and let the investigation astray.
While the ratio for cadaver dogs is more like 95% for validity... I'm no unofficial Sherlock Holmes...but the hotel and the location seems a good source for rapid human movement off premises and a hit by a 'DOG' wouldn't necessarily mean it was from a child's body decaying!
Just a real mystery and a families heart ache as well.

Similar to the Jon Benet karfarckle - the detectives perspective can be easily swayed to make his performance greater then it was and his very own unfounded 'what-if' suspicions something he feels needs a book to justify
But as with the O.J. Simpson case; everyone had a uniquely different perspective about who/what lost that case for the state of California and collectively --- they all shared in that F - UP. IMO

Re: Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
I didn't think they were guilty of harming Madeline from the start and I still don't.
They were definitely guilty of neglect...as are thousands of parents who go on holiday and leave their kids tucked up in bed at night whilst they swan off to eat and drink....it seems to be a British thing to do that. (Obviously not by all and many parents are appalled by this)

It's good news becasue he should never have been prevented from writing what he knew.
He's the one with all the evidence, he's the professional and I beleive him.
If you read any comments under this story on any social or media site, most people express their concerns that they have no belief in the mccanns version of events.
The truth will come out, one day.

Sometimes, it takes one person to have the balls to speak out about a thing for the truth to finally emerge. This guy was entitled to his opinion, and many a family member who wept at press conferences was eventually found guilty of a murder. I remember that guy who battered his step daughter to death and buried her under the patio. He wept buckets over and over again, and everyone felt so sorry for him. And yet he killed her.
I don't think Madeleine McCann is alive, and I think the whole thing stinks to high heaven.

So is the general consensus on here that the McCanns killed their daughter then?
I just think that if they did, they wouldn't have kept her disappearance in the public eye for so long. There's no evidence to suggest that they had anything to do with it is there?

I hardly call 4 posters being the general consensus
To be honest I await what evidence comes to light what happened to the girl.
What I deplore is how a witch hunt formulated based off only one thing.
The fact they like countless others went to dinner and left their children in the flat.
It is based completely off this, of how then people formed and decided to claim they also killed their daughter.
Fine they want to condemn them for leaving their children to go out to dinner is one thing, but to go off some of the worst hearsay evidence and also conflicting evidence shown to be flawed by the dogs, is jut people trying to make something fit in order for them to feel comfortable at them claiming the parents as guilty of murdering their own daughter
That is what it really boils down to at the day.

Re: Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
Amaral and his organised supporters awaited the recent Wikileaks with gleeful anticipation in that new evidence would be revealed to confirm Goncalo being exonerated for alleged incompetence and perhaps provide support for his conspiracy theory that the case was snuffed out by institutional interference and not for the simple fact that there is no proof to indicate a suspect or crime.
The leaked communication from Britain's ambassador to Portugal, Alexander Wykeham Ellis, reportedly made claim to his American counterpart on September 21, 2007 - two weeks after Portuguese police named Gerry and Kate McCann as "arguidos", or formal suspects, in the case.
That claim is, British police helped to "develop evidence" against Madeleine McCann's parents as they were investigated by Portuguese police as formal suspects in the disappearance of their daughter, the US ambassador to Portugal was told by his British counterpart in September 2007.
Ok, lets examine this. Two weeks after the couple were made arguidos, Amaral’s team had gathered evidence with the co-operation of the UK police. We all know that Amaral claimed they helped in his book. The pivotal point of the use of that evidence is when the forensic results came through confirming the information is not positive material proof.
A spokesman for the McCanns responded:
"This is an entirely historic note that is more than three years old. Subsequently, Kate and Gerry had their arguido status lifted, with the Portuguese authorities making it perfectly clear that there was absolutely no evidence to implicate them in Madeleine's disappearance whatsoever.
"To this day, they continue to work tirelessly on the search for their daughter, co-operating when appropriate with both the Portuguese and British authorities."
The above comment being a true interpretation of the leaks, as anyone with common sense will understand.
Yet, the leaks are being used as a stepping stone of publicity for the conspiracy theorist. Amaral was quick to take an interview regarding the Wikileaks. A few interesting points become illuminated.
Amaral is quick to point out that the leaks tell us nothing new regarding what is already in the public domain, the process reflected in the case files. But he wasted no time to twist the information to suggest there is possibly hidden evidence and that possibly being withheld from his team by the British police.
From Pedro Mourinho (P.M.) - SIC Notícias Anchor (Portuguese 24/7 News Channel)
Gonçalo Amaral (G.A.) - the former Judiciary Police inspector, coordinator of the Madeleine McCann investigation until October, 2007
P.M. - Is there any novelty for you in the documents now released by Wikileaks?
G.A. - No, in reality the only news is the document disclosure itself, since as for the evidence, the indicia, they are on the process. The cooperation and collaboration with the English police is public knowledge, and is on the process. The results are there, therefore there isn't anything new.
Then he inferred that there might be some hidden evidence and the British police should confirm it.
P.M. - So, for you it isn't news that it was the British police that found the evidence that have, would have incriminated Madeleine's parents?
G.A. - No, I didn't say that. It's not news as regarding to the evidence, now as to the proofs held by the British police I don't know what are they referencing to. There was a cooperation and collaboration, the evidence and indicia are in the process thus...I don't know, someone should say what the evidence are, perhaps someone from the British police should say it. All the same, it was a cooperation between the British and Portuguese police that has arrived to the proofs that are in the process.
Not only does Goncalo infer that there might be evidence which the British police had gathered, independently of the PJ. Which in itself is a subtle accusation that the UK police were on a separate mission, part of the alleged conspiracy perhaps? But Goncalo also states that it was cooperation between the UK and PJ police that had arrived at the proofs in the investigation. I understand his use of the word ‘proofs' as being evidence. This is interesting as Amaral writes in his book that the English police backed off at the time when the FSS results came through. It is clear to anyone with any sense that they backed off with the forensic confirmation that the ‘proofs’ were not positive and therefore the evidence was no longer valid.
Goncalo forgets, or ignores, the investigation changed at that point forensics confirmed no positive back up. There is no material proof of death. The Wikileak is a snapshot of what was occurring before that pivotal point in the case. Goncalo prefers to think that his truth is being covered up by conspiracy rather than his truth was proved redundant.
So where are we now with Goncalo? Following his publicity about the CCTV camera, near a disused villa in the Estrela da Luz resort hotel, having being wiped, with the suggestion evidence of the man seen carrying Madeleine by Martin Smiths family was wiped with it. Amaral now suggests the Wikileaks are yet to reveal satellite pictures of that very man as well. There is no evidence that those pictures exist. But Amaral will ensure that they now exist in the minds of his gullible supporters, just like the missing CCTV pictures and the positive evidence of death have been installed in the mindset of those who would prefer Madeleine be dead, through their prejudice, than to keep hope alive for her.
http://express.co.uk/posts/view/210032/Madeleine-McCann-Did-the-camera-hold-vital-clue-
What is more profound is that Amaral states in his book that the English police backed off from the investigation after the point where his 'proof' was undermined and ignores that statement he made in his interview about the Wikileaks, to proclaim that the British police cooperated to arrive at his proof!!.
Misinformation?, a lie? Spin? waxing his conspiracy theory?, Definitely not the truth!

And it's not all about DNA...some times it just about a missed interview from a obscure observer that saw something but wasn't aware of what they saw and how it pertained to the missing child.

Since this little girl has tweaked my interests...
This image has become the one that I've viewed most often > > >The detective in charge of the search for Madeleine McCann said today that police still believe the missing girl could be found alive.
Madeleine disappeared in Portugal nearly nine years ago, just days before her fourth birthday, and officers have continued to hunt for her ever since.
Today the head of Scotland Yard's homicide squad insisted there is 'always a possibility' that the girl will be discovered safe and well as he justified the ongoing operation.

And I'd lay odds on the history and prior work of Scotland Yard to be vastly more technical driven then the detective/officer from Portugal...just say'n; that man would {as he stated in his book} have limited access to newer technology then say - Scotland Yard would have

Wasting your breath.
They won't read it.
I don't debate with people who havent read it as you end up having to tell them what's I it and post links they won't read.
Good luck. I won't enter a debate about this Tommy - I have read every single thing (both sides) and as you and I both know, there's evidence that she died in that apartment (dogs) and not a single shred of evidence that she was abducted - whoever abducted her left NO TRACE OF HIMSELF AT ALL......pretty impossible.

Re: Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
My question is this. For those who think the McCanns were involved, at what time do you think the death and removal of the body occured? Between the time they went back to their apartment at 6pm and when they went to dinner at 8.30pm? Didn't Gerry go for a tennis lesson at some point?
After 10pm? What opportunity did they have of removing and hiding the body?
The next day? Did they go anywhere in their car by themselves?

Re: Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
After the McCanns were no longer under suspicion, what would be their motive for continuing the search and drawing so much attention to themselves if they knew what had happened to Maddie?

Geeze Tommy, do you read ANYTHING in the prior posts???
And since YOU - I - every member on here doesn't get a VOTE or have a dog in this fight all we are able to do is just kick around the hypotheticals 'what ifs' about the young girl.
This former officer has specific reasons for writing his 'tell all book'; the least of them being financial gain
Cadaver Dogs will hit on any decomposing odor; unless the remains are found and prove that it was her body --- who's to say that there hadn't been a PRIOR event in that same room weeks/months/years before that left a trace odor for the dog to find.
BTW - I don't know for a FACT, but if she woke up and left the room wouldn't the door have closed and automatically locked behind her??? So many plausible 'what ifs' and for Scotland Yard to affirm that they 'THINK/FEEL'...has more weight IMO then this one single former police officer.
Doesn't make him a horrid human...just makes his NEED to write his own book worthy of doubtful financial agenda driven motivations!

Re: Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
This thread is not about what I think... it is about the book the detective wrote and the legal action taken by the mccanns in trying to prevent the books publication and wider circulation and attempt to try to get a big pay out over it...
It would help to actually read the book to see for yourselves what was said or not said etc to have an informed opinion about it all...!

Re: Madeleine McCann: Detective who said parents faked abduction wins libel case
Amasing after all the evidence we have invented dectives throughout the web claim their guilt and yet the Police find no evidence to say they are .
I wonder who is to believe in a situation?
A bunch of conspiracy crackpots and those hating them because they left their children to go to dinner.
Or the experts
Tough one that lol

Are you suggesting that Maddie's body was hidden somewhere near the apartment and that the hire car was used to move it later?

Mainly because the book is full of shit and you do not even need to read it when, all the evidence there is can be found on the web
So you are offering up feeble excuses

Did you read the book dodge...!?
Written as a factual account of the investigation by the main detective...!?
Or are you just believing Internet bullshit...?
The same kind of Internet bullshit that you were previously slagging off...!!!
