This applies to ALL members from this point onward... 22:42:22 04.08.2016

whats been done in the past is past...

I see what you have added under "doxing". I think the prohibition on doxing should go to any kind of conversation about a person or his or her background, other than what the person has disclosed. A lot of 'reverse' doxing goes on, where someone tries to claim someone is not as represented.

That is equally offensive, and done for the same reason. It is an attempt to "out" a person, or make him or her out to be something other than represented.

You have to be very careful. It's going to become a place where nothing can be said...?

One can have AN OPINION on whether they think someone is married, or a butcher, baker or candlestick maker....

which is why I didnt go down the route quill has mooted

the balance between reasonable rules and decency should not favour a too precriptive approach...

The issue I have tried to address is not one of opinion though

Just to clarify, what about someone who continually says you are lying when you are talking about life experiences that are relavent to a thread, not once, but over and over again on many threads?

That's exactly what I'm talking about. It's just as antagonistic as any 'wrongful' thing said about someone. It's just doxing in reverse. It should be disallowed, even under present rules if doxing is properly understood.

BTW, why is it so important to talk about someone, anyway? If something in one's background qualifies someone to speak and add some information to the subject, fine. That's legitimate. But what is legitimate about going off on a binge simply to try to discredit someone. WTF is the topic of conversation, when one is trying to discredit someone. That's not legitimate.

The point is, we should be talking about a subject, not dissing each other.

Yeah, I don't want to personify this thing.  Lord knows, sassy and I have gone around, and she made it a career of looking me up, over on SF--haha, to the extent that she is now the authority on me whenever I need back-up.

But, I'm just speaking abstractly now.  Doxing is doxing, and to say someone is not xxx is just as bad as saying someone is xxx.

I think that's dead wrong.  Doxing is doxing, whether its affirmative or in reverse.

It can be dealt with under "disruption and or harrasment" quill

to try to legislate against it leads to running up against "freedom of opinion"

I mean...its perfectly resonable to cast aspersions at anothers claim to greatness...lets face it anyone can claim to be anything, and anyone has a right to doubt that claim ...and say so...

BUT where it all goes pear shaped and needs dealing with .....is when it becomes a "hobby" as Sassy rightly says ...when someone is following you around accusing you of lying over everything you say....that will not be tolerated any more.....

An opinion that one shouldn't be expressing, if out mission is to discuss topics and not each other.

After he told me I was lying about my daughter, when we had been having a discussion about bereavement, think it was with Syl, and how it effects you.  If he does it again he'll get more than bloody hexing.

And amazingly it seems even with the new rules she can only post about me.

Yeah, that's the one thing you've got me on...and I realized it when I said it.

That's the reason why I spoke about "our mission".  I'm a big advocate of freedom of expression, but there's such a thing as 'scope of discussion'.  And I think that, just as it's inappropriate to yell 'FIRE!' in a crowded theater, it's just as inappropriate to deliberately pick fights on a forum.

N'uff said.

So sassy can add rip roaring hypocrite to her cv.

Hexing someone?! Have you ever heard anything so utterly pathetic and contemptible ?
More to be pitied than scolded I suppose

OI....put the pitchfork away ....... Please re read the site rules 479860004

and actually Miffs to be perfectly fair it WAS a response NOT an unprovoked "have a go"

all considered, If I had been modding at the time stormee would have been history for that.....
I have said it before I will say it again, if you choose to post your personal life online you make it public property and so you don't get to whine if comments you don't like are made.
As for the hexing horseshit, it's out of order. You know my feelings about that.

that may well be true ...BUT it doesnt mean its a free for all...otherwise you are justifying the rule of the cyber bullies and trolls...just becasue some parts of the web are like that doesnt mean we should tolerate such behaviour here...we can ...and will....set better standards

and so you don't get to whine if comments you don't like are made.

but you do...in the absence of any other control.... get to retaliate

which is why I am making the slow but certain changes i am.....to try to head off these things BEFORE they blow up into what we have seen....

As for the hexing horseshit, it's out of order. You know my feelings about that.

It could have been worse affraid .....It was only an hex.......

Everybody puts some of their personal life on line. Syl has a photo with her mother. Sass has a daughter. Ben is a reporter. Vic does beautiful woodwork. Stormee has a wife who helps him on 'Who is This'? Cass is in Arizona and runs a library.

It's all part of conversing. That's why I say 'reverse doxing' is maybe worse, because its actually starting the dissing. It begins with disagreements, anyway, and it's usually the first step in attacking a poster, and not the post.

See if sassy had offered SEX instead of a HEX.... I reckon she'd have got rid of Stormee faster.
