Ukip attempts to woo Scottish voters with higher drink drive limits, airgun ban repeal, and smoking in pubs
Ukip has launched its Scottish manifesto in an effort to woo voters with pledges to raise the drink-driving limit, reintroduce smoking in pubs and clubs, and repeal airgun legislation for people wishing to take up target shooting.
Unveiling the 32-page manifesto Nigel Farage proclaimed that Ukip are the “independence party in Scotland” and urged Scots to vote for the 26 candidates his party are fielding in the regional list on 5 May.

It's kind of insulting to Scottish people actually?

Hold on a minute... hasn't Scotland just lowered the alcohol limit for driving recently and to now be lower than the rest of uk...?
And while this has not stopped anyone driving when pissed... it has made criminals of vast numbers of sensible drivers who have only had a glass or two of wine/beer and meant they have also been banned from driving for a year too!!!
Also... why should they have such draconian laws on air gun target shooting anyway...?

"UKIP stands for more than just leaving the European Union, Nigel Farage has said, as the party launches its local elections campaign in England.
Mr Farage said immigration, housing, local democracy, schools and public spending were key issues for the party.
He said UKIP offered "plain speaking" in local government and he hoped more of its "free-spirited" candidates would be elected to local councils."

Yea, in Scotland it stands for letting people drink and drive and kill and maim men, women and children.

Answer my point about the drink drive limit being recently lowered to criminalize decent people who have had a couple glasses of wine but done nothing to stop pissed up twats driving! !!

Good, it should be zero, not one drop.

Re: Ukip attempts to woo Scottish voters with higher drink drive limits, airgun ban repeal, and smoking in pubs
No it shouldn't be zero at all... that is ridiculous and would criminalize even more decent responsible people!
You could have a couple in the evening and still have a trace in system in morning... under your rules they woukd get a year ban and 200 quid fine!!!

Would you agree that not every human out here absorbs their alcohol {regardless of the number or volume} in the same way?Tommy Monk wrote:No it shouldn't be zero at all... that is ridiculous and would criminalize even more decent responsible people!

See, I'm a real light weight for the speed that any alcoholic beverage hits my stability ratio --- One excellent glass of wine and I'm barely able to verbalize let alone function behind a vehicle
If all of us KNEW that any drink - any quantity - any brand name {or not} would make our driving against the LAW; would we not be responsible and make sure we had a designated drive for that evening - that event - that outing?
What's the problem with being a RESPONSIBLE CITIZEN and following the LAW?

If you know you are unfit to drive after a small amount of wine then you shouldn't drive anyway...

I think total abstinence is the best way to go if you're going to drive.

Everyone is unfit to drive after a small amount of wine. Haven't you seen the tests they have done on people who have had a little bit and think they are fine, but their reactions are much slower than they think they are.
If you have a drink, the only responsible thing to do is NOT DRIVE. That half a second difference in your reactions might make the difference between killing someone or not killing them.

Sassy... do you really think that all our roads are already that dangerous that it is always only half a millisecond between being safe and death/carnage etc...!?
If you are going to put that tight a margin of safety on it then surely it is also necessary to get all the bad drivers off yhe road and all with naturally slower reaction times off the road etc...!?

Has the reduction of limit in Scotland actually prevented any drunk people from driving...!?
Have any more drunk people been prosecuted by police by the lowering of limit in Scotland. ..?

Eddie... think it was recently lowered to be under the level seen through rest of uk... which is already low enough... think Ukip are just saying it should be restored to previous level as seen in rest of uk...

Ah oh ok then my apologies. You're not talking bollocks on this thread then lol, but I still think it should be abstinence.

I agree with Tommy.
i think we should raise ours to 0.08 like many states in the USA (it's 0.05 ATM)
if you can't drive safely at 0.05 then you should not have a license at all
or vastly improve public transport

Smoking in pubs Yes, yes I know, ex smokers are the worst critics but I would really hate to see smoking back in pubs and restaurants.

Not in restaurants but pubs could easily have well ventilated smoking areas with plenty of extractor fans... I would be fine with that.

EXTRACTOR FANS - PURE AIR REGENERATORS...do not protect the people serving those same humans that can't refrain from smoking! My neighbor across the street is now on Oxygen 24/7 because she was told; 'don't worry about all of that 2nd hand smoke hype --- our AIR purifiers will protect you'...PURE BS is what that statement was.
Her husband {the bartender} died from lung cancer - both lungs...and he was only a occasional pipe smoker. 2nd hand smoke is deadly --- go outside
