I know you're joking, but there was a right-winger on a site I was on back in 2008 who took the version of this quiz for that election. He got Obama for his top choice, over 90 percent, and noted, "but I'm sure as hell not voting for him!"

Why? It's only a quiz and it's not really much to do with who someone is actually going to vote for.

Erm well it is? If you answer the questions honestly and in depth and answer as many as possible, it gives you an indication of where you sit, politically.

If we're going to choose who to vote for based on an internet quiz, we're all doomed.

I think they are useful. Especially for those who won't look into a politicians record or even watch the debates. If ypu discover your candidate agrees with free tuition, reduced military spending and a tax on Wall Street speculation and you feel the same on those and other issues- why the heck wouldn't you vote for them?
Because she's a woman, because he's a man or because he hates foreigners too- those are bad reasons to vote.

They probably are, but a lot of people do vote on single issues. They might not care about a lot of the questions in a quiz, but they have to answer them to get to the end.

Yes. I saw that quite late on. Maybe I'll do it again then.
It didn't ask about hunting with dogs though - not sure if that's an issue in the US.

I did it again, and it was still Hillary but with less percentage. You still have to say yes or no to the questions even if you don't give a toss.

Re: American elections: Who do you side with? Take the questionnaire.
I did the UK one, and it came up LibDem, but only a couple of points ahead of Tory. I think it's because I'm on the fence over a few issues.
If it had come up as Tory, I still wouldn't vote for them, no matter how much I agreed with their policies, because I won't vote for a party which supports hunting with dogs.

Was bound to happen, he's the only one Jewish and the only one who doesn't kowtow to Netanyahu and Israel. It was inevitable that they would use the fact he listens to everyone, from J Street to BDS advocates, against him. I can't see him taking the blindest bit of notice of them though.

That's really not a big issue in the U.S., at least not at the national political level. Maybe some state parties get involved in states where this is common, but you have to remember that the U.S. is about 38 times the size of the UK -- not really an issue that's going to come up in Congress very often, or at least not get a lot of press when it does.
I did find this article, however, which illustrates the general state of hunting issues vs. animal protection in the U.S.: http://www.animals24-7.org/2016/02/27/hunting-lobby-sets-a-leghold-trap-for-democrats/

It's not asking whose hairstyle you like best -- it's matching you to candidates' political policies. That's what most voters (at least the ones who aren't voting on pure emotion) do themselves -- check out what candidates are saying, along with their records, and decide whose ideas they like best.

I want to see the whole of the US make a clean break with outdated marijuana laws and make it legal and available (and clean it up a bit)
Then the UK will surely follow suit.

Yes, but if it's not asking the right questions, it's not much use.

I think that day is coming. We have a unique situation in the U.S. where the individual states can serve as "laboratories" testing new policies. Massachusetts legalized gay marriage in 2006, and 6.5 million people showed the rest of the country that you can have that without the sky falling. Now, Colorado, Oregon, etc. are seeing whether the sky falls when you legalize marijuana, and the results are generally favorable.
The biggest issue with legalization we're experiencing is actually a commercial one -- Big Pot is trying to shut out smaller growers:
But now, as he enters the final phase of his life, (Willie) Nelson is gearing up for a different battle. He has been a vocal advocate of marijuana legalization for more than half a century, but he has watched the last few years unfold with a combination of joy and dread. Even as the country has softened its stance toward marijuana, a legion of large corporations has gathered to dominate the legal market. Nelson figures he has at least one good fight left. In what may be his last political act, he is declaring war on Big Pot.

I agree -- I firmly believe capitalism is often a positive force, but I think corporations should be illegal. They wield far too much power, usually almost totally unchecked thanks to having a certain type of politician in their pockets.

I've said it over and over: capitalism doesn't work. It inevitably devolves into monopoly.
