On BBC last night. It's a comedy New Year programme sending up football in general with a bit of politics on the side.

Clasic part.

Johann Lamont, the Labour leader, in the Scottish Independence debate in Holyrood shouts a question at Alex Salmond...

What will you do when the oil runs out?

Alex Salmond gets to his feet and replies..

We'll just switch to oven chips.

and the Nats cheer him to the rafters.

He certainly did JD. Cracked me up.

I thought the format of the show had got a bit tired over the years but it was better this year.

OK, here's my interpretation of events from an ocean away:

British guy asks leader of Scottish independence movement what Scotland (which presumably depends upon British petroleum) what will an independent Scotland do when they're independent and can't depend on that oil anymore.

Scottish independence guys says Scots will switch to chips you can bake in the oven, so no oil is needed to fry them ... right? Did I get it? Smile

Correction Ben...the EU has said that if the Scots go their separate way, all the North Sea oil belongs to them. With all that oil, they'll do fine.

But I don't truk with Scottish separatists. England, Scotland and Wales are better off together. They could toss Northern Ireland, tho...seems they've got mixed feelings over there.

You did apart from one thing Ben. Scotland doesn't depend on British Petroleum. Scotland is rich in oil fields off it's coast that, if they became independent, would be Scotland's property. The rest of the joke you got bang. Surprised he didn't say anything about whiskey though, I think I am right in saying they are making just about the same amount of money from whiskey as they are from oil!
