Faily members are hoping prosecutors will file murder charges after a Brooklyn man took his own life about a few months after he was brutally attacked with a hammer by men screaming homophobic slurs. Mitcheal Pope suffered severe head injuries in the Oct. 13, 2014, attack in the lobby of his Crown Heights apartment by a man who called him a “f*cking f*ggot” during the brutal beating, reported the New York Post.
Doctors said the 33-year-old Pope would recover after surgery to repair a fractured skull, but his family said they noticed changes to his personality right away.

“All of a sudden he really, really started acting different,” said his mother, Agnes Watson. “He was becoming delusional and paranoid.”
Watson, a police officer who lives in California, said her son became obsessed with demons and evil, and she said he later became convinced he was “invincible” and possessed “godlike” healing powers. Pope was found dead outside his apartment building Jan. 17, 2015, and investigators believe he jumped from his third-story window.

A medical examiner ruled out drugs as a contributing factor but said a brain injury could have influenced his actions.

That’s why Pope’s family has asked for murder charges to be filed in the case.

A suspect was arrested shortly after the attack but was released after his alibi checked out.

Police also examined whether the attack was related to four other hammer assaults and an attempted murder in Manhattan, but investigators said they could not find any evidence to link the cases.

Pope’s family said police have not done enough to make an arrest in the attack, which investigators have classified as an anti-gay hate crime.

Detectives did not return calls seeking comment.

Interesting case and clearly I think they have grounds if the injury effected his mental health.
