A 40-year-old pregnant woman is critically ill after being stabbed in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands Police said.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested.

A pregnant woman has been critically hurt after she was stabbed in a town centre.
Police have praised two men who "bravely" intervened in the disorder in Sutton Coldfield.
The members of the public suffered minor hand injuries in the incident.
West Midlands officers were flagged down by passers-by on Trinity Hill following the attack at around 3.15pm.

A 41-year-old man was immediately arrested over the assault.
A large area has been cordoned off and the pregnant victim was taken to hospital by air ambulance.
Police spokesman Julian Harper said of the attack: "This happened in a busy area.
"But I would reassure the community that a man has been arrested and we are working hard to understand the circumstances that led up to the assault.
"What is clear at this early stage is that two members of the public bravely stepped into what was a dangerous and volatile situation, with complete disregard for their own safety and I commend them for their actions.
"Fortunately they suffered only minor injuries."

She's still in a critical condition but the baby has been born, they must have done a c-section.

A man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after a pregnant woman was stabbed in a West Midlands street.
Babur Karamat Raja, 41, from Sutton Coldfield is accused of attacking the 40-year-old in Sutton Coldfield on Friday.
He has also been charged with assault, attempt child destruction and possession of a knife.
Mr Raja is due to appear before Birmingham magistrates on Monday.
Police said the woman is in a stable condition in hospital and her baby girl - born following the alleged attack - continues to do well.
The victim's family praised five men who went to her aid before paramedics arrived.
In a statement released by police, they said: "We'd all like to express our heartfelt thanks to everybody who helped her on Friday afternoon.
"Your fearlessness and selfless actions saved both their lives and we are overwhelmingly grateful to you all."

Her ex apparently.
A thread recently touched on the fact that many women are killed by their partners AFTER they have left them.
This piece of human waste seems to have targeted her stomach....thank God the baby is doing well and the mum is holding her own in hospital.

Calling him a beast is unfair to beasts.
She was heard screaming "Not the baby" and her stomach was badly stabbed....so the probable conclusion is he did deliberately want to kill both her and the unborn baby.
It truly is sickening.
