The God of Chaos
First topic message reminder :
Hi gang, sitting having my breakfast my mind wandered into a fantasy scenario. Imagine it if you will:
God is lounging in his armchair with a cute Angel on his lap, when there's a knock at his door.
"Hello chief, we were wondering if you’ve got a cosy little planet we can live on."
"Yes," says he, pointing out the window at a little blue planet. "There’s one I’ve just made, now bugger off, I’m busy."
A little while later the door opens gingerly and the Alien stood there looking a bit crestfallen.
"We’re not living there! You must be joking, you didn’t do a very good job, did you. Some of the mountains are spewing out burning, boiling lava, the ground shakes and splits under our feet, the seas keep spilling over the land, there are bugs galore endangering our health, the wind keeps blowing down trees, and a host of other bad points. No way mate, bye bye, we’re off round the Galaxy to find somewhere more hospitable.” And who can blame them?
In the beginning was the word, and the word was -well, two words actually-: ‘Oh bugger!’ Despite the comment: Genesis 1. V. 31: ‘And God saw everything he had made, and, behold, it was very good…’ Lol, was it?

Re: The God of Chaos
VEYA, you said: 'and Thus Why I have adopted the Aboriginal's Gods into my personal pantheon.
I am interested in being their audience.'
---------------------------------------------
I'm sure you know about Aboriginal myths but here's a few which our members might find interesting:
The Wagilak sisters travelled from Arnhem Land across the country. As they went they created water holes and life. There’s quite a longish story attached to their travels, so cutting it short, they stopped at a water hole where the older sister polluted the water with her menstrual blood. A great python, being angry at this, came out of the water, swallowed the sisters and caused a flood which covered the surface of the earth. When he lay down again the waters receded. This is probably based on the time the last Ice-Age melted about 10-11,000 years ago.
In the South Eastern Australia we find a male creator Ngurunderi, named as Baiame in other places. Also known as Daramulun, and other names. Cutting the story short on one occasion he lifted his canoe out of the water, placed it in the sky and where it became the Milky Way.
In other parts of Australia they speak of the Great Earth Mother.
In north east Arnhem Land we find the two Djanggawul sisters, called ‘The Daughters of the Sun.’ Probably another name for the Wagilak sisters.
Then of course we have ‘The Dream Time, a period of creation which, according to some Aboriginal tribes is still going on.
In N.W. Australia the Unambal tribe say that in the beginning only the sky and earth existed. Ungud, the creator being is associated with both the earth and water. The sky being Wallanganda is associated with the Milky Way and supposed to have made everything. Together Wallanganda and Ungud created everything.
The Wandjina are ancestral spirits in the Western Australian region, who were responsible for forming parts of the landscape, its animals and plants.
In the northern territory we find the ‘Old Woman,’ variously known as Kunapipi; Mumuna; Kliarin-Kliari. She is said to be the source of life in both the human and natural world.
In the Central Desert region we find yet another creator being named Atain-tjina.
I am interested in being their audience.'

Would I could travel the world and be able to sit at camp fires/local family gatherings to listen and record their unique stories handed down from generation to generation...so many wonderful connections that we all have but are written in so many different languages.

Re: The God of Chaos
Hi Aspca. I agree. How lovely it would be to sit at their campfires listening to their story tellers, telling tales of long ago, of gods and goddesses, of battles, of triumphs and failures.
The world is full of stories, no less here in Europe, especially the Celtic and Norse legends, and of course the Pagan stories here in the UK.
I presume, rightfully or wrongly, that these stories came from country to country as Mankind slowly moved from out of Africa and populated the world. Fascinating stuff isn't it.
I've studied mythology for years and due to that it has helped me to put God into perspective.

Re: The God of Chaos
here is a better explanation. as to how they are told it is NOT like other religions it is your interpretation of the 'dreaming' dimension.
it is disingenuous to present the tales as 'history' or even people suggesting that these things happened in the past it is not, it is a different interpretation of the time/space continuum past present and future are all one in the 'dreaming' Also you can't actually write them down. the Music and movement of the dancers is part of the story

What's so wonderful about NPR...they do recycle their fascinating shows so that if within the week that this one was broad cast you missed segments --- it's bound to come around again and it's easy to catch aired sections that were missed.
A Road Trip In Search Of America's Lost Languages
Updated March 5, 20121:38 PM ET
The vast majority of the 175 indigenous languages still spoken in the United States are on the verge of extinction.
Linguist Elizabeth Little spent two years driving all over the country looking for the few remaining pockets where those languages are still spoken — from the scores of Native American tongues, to the Creole of Louisiana. The resulting book is Trip of the Tongue: Cross-Country Travels in Search of America's Lost Languages.
"I put, I think, 25,000 miles on my poor, long-lost Subaru that has since been consigned to the afterlife for cars," she tells Jackie Lyden, guest host of weekends on All Things Considered.
The first part of the book deals with Native American languages such as Navajo. Little writes the language is disappearing fast. Among kindergartners in one reservation school district, fluency dropped from 89 percent at the beginning of the 1980s to just a few percent by the end of the decade. Little says one reason for its decline is that the Navajo community is less geographically and technologically isolated.

"Once there is more television, you know, cable television and the Internet, and once younger members of the tribe have more ability to be exposed to the English language, the heritage language really drops off pretty quickly," she says.

Something for all of us aging adults to keep in mind...what our language will resemble once history has written some text books about the 'written word pre-internet/twitter/Iphones/Texting...
Will humanity wonder what 'CODE' we were talking in this the 21st century or will English have changed that drastically that they'll need a 'decoder' just to read our printed words??? LOL
