Man killed in M11 car explosion

A man killed when the car he was driving exploded in a "ball of fire" on the M11 motorway has been named.

Foyzul Islam, 43, of Marlow Close, Rothwell, Northamptonshire, died when the Mercedes was engulfed in flames at 08:10 GMT at junction 12, near Barton in Cambridgeshire on Wednesday.

A bomb disposal team was sent to the scene. Police said there was nothing to indicate any other vehicle had been involved.

However, there's no news on what caused the explosion. If it was a fault with the car, they need to clarify that really fast before people start panicking about their own cars.

during the IRA troubles....

an essential part of a bomb is the timer....a common component used in these is the commonly available NE555 timer chip

the govt of the time arranged to have a whole load of these made "faulty" in that thye would work ok for the first time or even a secnod or third time, but would then not "time" but instantly switch or do so after a short but unknowable time

they then had these dumped onto the market or sureptitiously supplied via whatever channels to the IRA

the result was a series of unexpected and unwelcome spontaneous detonations which rather shook the confidence of the IRA bomb makers.....


that this was true was supported by the fact a small but significant number found their way onto the legitimate market...I know...I had the job of sorting out some of the problems this caused to customers...
