Wanted: A new home for little Grace before Christmas

It is a case that should melt even the hardest heart; a child with a troubled start in life who needs a new family. In a highly unusual step an adoption agency is appealing publicly for a prospective family to come forward to give three year-old Grace a permanent home.

The little girl, whose mother was unable to look after her due to a brain injury from an accident, is currently in foster care.  But her foster mother and father, Jill and Paul, are nearing retirement and want to find a new family for the adorable child they describe as a “cheeky tomboy”.

Her case is being raised by the First4Adoption agency as part of National Adoption Week, which highlights the plight of more than 4,000 children awaiting adoption in Britain.

Jill, 57, said: “We’re just trying to get a nice home for her. It’s so important for her to find a family and to finally see her settled. She just needs a family for Christmas.”

Grace’s first years have not been easy. Her birth mother suffered severe pre-eclampsia during pregnancy and when her daughter was born prematurely at 25 weeks, weighing just 1.3lbs, she was left with cerebral palsy and chronic lung disease.

Although doctors feared Grace would never be able to walk, she has made remarkable progress and is able to scramble around her foster family’s Midlands home. Grace can now walk unassisted with the help of stability boots and is increasingly independent.
