Obama: Russia action in Syria is 'recipe for disaster'
President Barack Obama vehemently rejected Russia's military actions in Syria as self-defeating and dismissed the idea that Moscow was strengthening its hand in the region. He vowed not to let the conflict become a US-Russia "proxy war."At a White House news conference on Friday, Obama pledged to stay the course with his strategy of supporting moderate rebels who oppose Syrian President Bashar Assad, but he dodged questions about whether the US would protect them if they came under Russian attack.
Russia's dramatic entry into the Syrian civil war, after a year of airstrikes by the U.S. and its coalition partners, has raised the specter of dangerous confrontations in the skies over Syria. And it prompted a question at the news conference as to whether Putin was outfoxing the U.S. at a time when the American-led military campaign in Syria has failed to weaken the Islamic State.

I watch Russia's involvement with bemusement. It reminds me of their foray into Afghanistan. Feelings of unmanliness and loss of testosterone. Putin's got it all.

Put down the glass, smells. Momma's hidden the bottle.
Putin is the Russian version of Stefano "The Undertaker" Magaddino. Russia is a criminal syndicate, not a nation.

Well it seems to be working. ISIS are on the run. The trouble is that they're running into Jordan.

America is quite content over here. Gotta blanket and sitting back in the recliner, bowl of popcorn...watching all those fools on TV blowin' shit up. Conservatives do love their fireworks.
So...what's in the offing if Russia takes Syria? Since it's really a civil war, do you think they can build something like the Warsaw Pact down in the Middle East? Afghanistan II...more likely.
This is better'n Monday Nite Football.

US has no interest in Syria. But it's fun to watch...especially Russia.

Proxy war? Is that a new football fantasy game?
So you learned a new term. Starved for any intellectual content in that cognitive wasteland of yours, you can't wait to try out your new toy.
Only, if it is real, you have to plug it in where it is appropriate...where it means something. Proxy war...hmmm, Philippines? Cuba? East Timor?
I know...Syria is a shit house in the vicinity of the anus of Turkey, the one place that has more tinsel than Tijuana. Everybody cares about Syria. Of course, let's have a...umm..oh, a proxy war over Syria.
How...I mean, where do we start?
Earth to smells: People are leaving Syria. That means something. Proxy war over what? With whom?

USA have been supporting ISIS.
USA have been telling us that they have been trying to support 'moderate' rebels... while also telling us that ISIS are everywhere and moderate rebels have been very difficult to identify.
But as soon as Russia start hitting ISIS, USA start telling us that ISIS are nowhere and Russia have just been hitting the moderate rebels who are now everywhere!
It's all complete bullshit!!!

Where have you been tommy? There are multifarious factions in the Syrian civil war. ISIL is only one.
But you raise a good point...it's impossible to know who to back and who to avoid. We must stay out of it for that very reason. There's no knowing who's who.
Getting the Russians involved is like stirring up a solution; we'll see what particles combine and remain when the fluid settles. In the meantime, let the Russians spend their bullets and their lives...we've got no dog in that fight.
