2) Black-eyed children:
A leading paranormal investigator has scoured a Staffordshire beauty spot following chilling sightings of a spectre known locally as The Black Eyed Child.
Lee Brickley launched an in-depth investigation of Cannock Chase after reports that the ghoulish apparition has returned to the sprawling heathland.
The child was last spotted 30 years ago, sparking worldwide interest – and is today a cult internet sensation.
Latest descriptions of the girl, who has coal-black pits for eye sockets, are identical to those chronicled in the early 1980s.

It might help to open the image in a new tab, but basically, this guy got on 4chan and posted the original message (the photo of Emily Sander) -- the way the site works, every time you post you get a different number to preserve your anonymity. He said he'd tell anyone would could guess their next ID number where Sander was buried.
Someone guessed correctly and he posted those GPS coordinates, which 4chan users pulled up on an online map. They saw he was referring to a place near El Dorado, Kansas, so then they started looking for reports of murders near there.
Finally, someone found an article about a murder (body found) in that vicinity, and the photos matched. So basically, the original 4chan poster might have been or known the murderer.

A man named Israel Mireles was arrested and convicted of not only her murder but also impregnating a 16-year-old ... I've never seen anything that proved he made that 4chan post, however.

OK, some more
* The Polaroid
In 1989 in Port St. Joe, Florida, a woman pulled into a grocery store parking lot next to a non-descript white van and went inside. When she came back out the van was gone, but on the ground where it had been, she found this photo:
The young woman was believed to be a teenager who went missing about 35 miles south of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was never found, but almost exactly 20 years after the photo was found, two copies of a photo of a young boy with tape drawn in ink over his mouth were mailed to the police in Port St. Joe. The envelope was postmarked in Albuquerque. (read more here: http://www.crimemagazine.com/polaroid )

Back in 2012, a mysterious image began being posted on various image hosting sites, bearing the message:
People who took on the challenge used advanced math to follow a winding trail of clues that led all over the Internet, to a voicemail recorded on a phone number registered in Texas, back to the "dark" web accessible only via Tor, to physical locations (flyers posted on telephone poles) in 14 cities in Spain, Russia, the U.S., France, Japan and Poland.
It's fairly certain that at least a few people have completed the contest, which was repeated for the next two years. People have claimed to have done so, but their stories can't be confirmed, so nobody knows for sure what happened to the winners. http://www.fastcompany.com/3025785/meet-the-man-who-solved-the-mysterious-cicada-3301-puzzle
* Ricky McCormack
In 1999, the body of 41-year-old Ricky McCormack, an unemployed, disabled high school dropout with a criminal record, was discovered in a Missouri cornfield, 15 miles from his last known address. It's unknown how he got there, as there were no vehicles around and McCormack didn't own one, and as his body was already decomposing after being missing for 72 hours, his cause of death remains unknown.
Twelve years later, the FBI announced that McCormack's death is considered an open homicide investigation, on the basis of notes found in McCormack's pants:
No one has of yet satisfactorily deciphered whatever code might have been used to write these, but if you think you can, the FBI would like to hear from you: https://forms.fbi.gov/code

"Hello. We are looking for highly intelligent individuals. To find them, we have devised a test. There is a message hidden in the image. Find it, and it will lead you on the road to finding us. We look forward to meeting the few who will make it all the way through. Good luck."
