Cameron Heads To Asia To Forge New Trade Ties
The trip - covering Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore - will see business deals worth £750m signed, creating 270 UK jobs.
David Cameron will begin his four-day tour of South East Asia today in a bid to boost trade links between Britain and the region.
The Prime Minister is being accompanied by 31 business leaders from across the UK on the trade mission, with scheduled stops in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore.
Downing Street has said the region has "untapped potential" for the UK, and Mr Cameron is set to hold talks with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Jakarta.
During his meeting at their headquarters, he will call for ASEAN and the EU to begin negotiations on a free trade agreement, which could provide an annual boost of £3bn to the British economy - the equivalent of £120 per household.
According to Number 10, business deals worth £750m will be signed during the tour, creating 270 new jobs back in the UK.
Also on the agenda will be security matters, with Mr Cameron expected to discuss the growing international threat posed by Islamic State.
Approximately 500 people from Indonesia - home to the world's largest Muslim population - are feared to have travelled to Iraq and Syria to fight.
The PM is expected to urge closer counter-terrorism co-operation to prevent the extremist group from gaining a foothold in the region.
On his first trade mission since he was re-elected in May, Mr Cameron will make history by becoming the first British leader to visit Vietnam.
Reducing the UK's reliance on trade from Europe is thought to be high on his agenda, and ahead of his arrival in Asia, the Prime Minister said: "Over the next 20 years, 90% of global growth is expected to come from outside Europe, and Britain must be poised to take advantage.
"That's why I'm delighted to be taking British businesses to this vast and dynamic market, securing deals worth over £750m and creating opportunities for hard-working people back at home."

270 jobs! He could do that in two minutes at home by closing tax loopholes and using the money to invest in re-opening Sure Start Centres or social care for the elderly. How much is that jaunt going to cost us?
