I left a jacket potato in the oven once.
I finally gave up and opened the oven door - just incase, ya-know ...last ditch place to look, since it couldn't grow legs and just walk off!
Yipper, there it was, still sitting in the oven - now with a very cold - mummified hunk of French bread - made into pizza toast ...guess I'd left it in there to cool off - at least the oven timer had shut the oven off automatically; or I'd have had a fire!
Biscuits are what we call Scones, here in the UK, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I got up and out of the house real early - down to the voting poll location by 7:35am and voted - watched the total board scroll across the TV screen late last night and no one I'd voted for in the county managed to make it. Oh, well ...this is a huge Republican state and there weren't very many on the Democratic option sheet, so I did quite a few write ins.
Just going to be another HOT & HUMID DAY in the heartland!

Re: The good night and good morning thread
And it's raining again today, so I don't feel twice as bad about not being able to mow - should have mowed on Thursday but that 110º + high humidity was just ...I just couldn't do it. So yesterday was a wimpy day & it rained most of the day - rained last night and this morning it's overcast with 80% of more rain.
Anyone else watch that really long boring opening night for the 2016 Olympics? Did you notice that they forgot to introduce the interim President of Brazil ~~~AWKWARD~~~ Camera & producers were like, where are we supposed to pan to next, this dude was to be introduced - says so right here on the program guide
What else can go wrong?

65º overcast - thunder - and raining and more rain to come!
Went out to do my chicken chores before the hens were off their roost; quite RUDE to their way of thinking and they were objecting loudly, fussy little biddies! But the monsoon was moving this way and that wet suit does protect from the rain but it does cause a human to sweat profoundly!
We've had the most rainy 2 summers back to back now {climate changes} normally we do not get any rainfall in July/August/Sept. unless there is a bad assed hurricane blowing into the Gulf Coast ...so something changing rather rapidly
My feed lot neighbor normally calls to have me drive a grain truck when he's in the middle of his field cutting of the corn crop. Well, the field cutting equipment moved in but now it's raining - raining - raining and the corn moisture content will be far too high - the fields will be far too muddy and now the field cutter will have to move onto his other contract {if weather permits} for his next job. We maybe doing it the old fashioned system and cutting 24/7 until it's done; if we can get into the fields - if the sun ever comes out - if the corn doesn't mold on the stalk - IF - IF - IF!
Now I'm checking my rose bushes for that horrid 'black mold' that they are susceptible too, due to all of these high humidity/rainy days with no sun! Ain't one thing it's another ...but 28 rose bushes - can't afford to replace them now that they are this old.

Re: The good night and good morning thread
Well, this has been one unique and uniquely frustrating day all rolled into ONE!
I was on here reading the Forumotion updates and scrolling around that Admin sight looking at updates and other solutions to minute problems {since Ben's having email/domain issues} and as our thunderstorm starts a revisit I hear and see a huge ball of bright light hit the tower up on the hill {just ¼ mile south of my house} - lightening struck our cell/cable/Internet access tower - AGAIN --- WOW there were sparks flying for quite a while!
And the internet went black. I still had TV since I went with Dish but the signal was pixeling pretty crazy. Loads of people in town pissed that not only was their Internet & Cell phones gone - their ability to watch the Olympic boxer fight {young light weight from Wichita, KS} Internet just came back on line at 7:30pm ...not so sure about the cable TV but at least people that know how can live stream the 2016 Olympics via their computer systems!

4ever: The Slap
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Slap
It's about a man who slaps a child at a family BBQ and the resulting series of events that follow....
It's very good. See if you can find it to watch or even read the book, which I did first.

Re: The good night and good morning thread
Oh, I was thinking you were watching a new TV series ...ya, I remember all of the hype that this generated on FB about 'whether or not that was child abuse' - that generated loads of strong emotions for both sides. Some of my cousins actually 'unfriended' each other over this issue!
Good thing they live really far apart ...
Buses running past my house early this morning ...adding school safety
- prayers for zero mass shootings/shooters to my daily meditations as well!

Re: The good night and good morning thread
They unfriended eachother? How silly!
If you get a chance you should watch it. It divided the family and friend in the show and it's very well done too.

I Think I Just Dumped The Last of The Water Seepage Out of My Basement!
While my area didn't receive the 12" that drenched the towns to the west of me ...getting the 4" - 6" that fell hard upon my rural town caused immediate ground water seepage into my basement. Between the winds and the high heat it saps the soil moisture and those ground cracks just become a instant water way into foundations
I'd just nearly finished mowing my area when the ominous clouds began building over head and that thunder with 1 lightening bolt made my decision to put the rider away easily done!
By 5:pm the wind driven rain was blowing out of the west - hard then by 6:30pm the wind shifted and it was blowing straight out of the north - twice as hard. Amazing we didn't have any power outages - not tornado warnings - just straight line winds and monsoon rain-pounding the ground for over 2 hours straight!
Spent the night on a rotation clock watch of water removal from the basement, but it kept my furnace & hot water tank dry.
But the A/C's off and the windows are open and the air smells soooo fresh and clean!

This by no means is what our NORMAL Kansas weather has been like in my 62 years...really oddStorms cause widespread flooding in South Central Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -
Storms dumped heavy rain on parts of South Central Kansas Friday night.
Areas south of Wichita were hardest hit, including Mulvane, Rose Hill and Derby. There were numerous reports of stalled vehicles and a building collapse in Mulvane. The rain continued to push across eastern Kansas late Friday night.
Old Settlers Day events in Mulvane have been canceled Saturday.
KAKE's Jay Prater said Saturday's weather will be much cooler with highs in the upper 70s.

Yes some of them are very funny. I also love FTL's collection.....they make the ones on offer look a bit boring.
Night night.....I'm off to do a bit of ironing so I can enjoy the promised sunshine later today.

Oh, me too; love those back ground stories - the common American folks taking on those obstacle courses and doing their best even with disabilities! Amazing!
Did you know that you can go line and submit an obstacle course idea for them try out and design into their locations around the United States?
How COOL would that be for some young person to see their very own set design right there being tested on national TV

I looked at the URL on your avatar image and it didn't have the right default for 'movement' but I had one just like it and several others that I thought you might like as well. Spent about an hour looking through that animated folders ...quite hypnotic and I'd forgotten so many of them! LOL
