I'm addicted to yeasty - starchy things; I can pass up chocolates and candy dishes ...be DO NOT GET BETWEEN ME AND THE FRESH BAKED BREAD! There will be a problem, there may be blood shed
My XMIL's hubby used to tell the best stories of his running home from the school bus drop off, up the road and past the mail box in a dead heat to beat his 3 older brothers for the right to 'SLICE' the home made bread for their after school snack prior to going out to do the barn chores. He who yielded the knife controlled the thickness of that homemade bread slice ...so that was serious business to be first in the door. Grandpa wasn't always able to best his older brothers but he wasn't past pulling some dirty tricks to obtain the right to carve that loaf of bread up. LOL, so many fond stories he retell, the best one was when the older boys had to stop one winter and help push a neighbors car out of their ditch, since Grandpa was too young he was sent onto the farm home to tell his mom why the other 3 were late. He went to carving on that loaf of bread - got all bundled up and headed to the barn just as his brothers were coming into the house. They looked for him in the hay loft - grainery - cow lot - for quite a long time - all the while threatening his little 'chubby butt' with all sorts of dire consequences for his 'carving skills' on that loaf of bread he'd left them.
Seems grandpa's favorite part of his mom's bread was the wonderful warm brown whole wheat crust, smothered with lots of real homemade churned butter; so he carved the entire loaf of bread clear of it's wonderful warm - brown crustiness and that, while pure genius and amusing to his stomach ...really pissed his 3 older brothers off to no end.
Great Grandma retold that story often and chuckled about the number of pay-backs that her littlest son, suffered through for his adventure and carving skills.
And Grandpa always replied when asked: 'Hell, yes it was worth it - every warm melting buttery mouthful!'

Remember when ...remember when we had inventors/research/developers
that put the good of humanity before their own vested interest and paid it
forward in such a HUGE WAY? Yes, indeed ...there were such humans, they
just seem few & far between in this the 21st century!

Good for you, we all need an outlet. Because OH's dad was a gamekeeper (although he ended up photgraphing everything rather than shooting it) in the Highlands, OH has just volunteered for a day week at a nature reserve that specialises in hawks and owls near here. Having outlets will stop us going nuts!

Yes it does. I'm looking into Reiki - you ever had it?
If you become qualified you can work in hospitals with cancer patients etc
I'd love that X

Not had it, but know people who have. Why not, if it's something you want to do and can use it to help others sounds brilliant. A win/win!

After a week of triple digits & high humidity that made life feeling like this
To waking up with the radar showing a cool front and heavy rains moving into my area the race out to get chicken chores done - before the torrential rains/thunder/lightening started up ...but it's such a 'RELIEF' and the air smells so fresh and clean and breathable ~~~ AWWWWW it's nice - it's a blessing - it's so very cooler too. 68º

INDEED, it was beginning to feel exactly like this >
This 'HEAT BUBBLE' is now sitting over the east coast; don't know if it's
going to hold together or stay strong and cross the pond to you folks. But
I hope not --- it's just horrible. And these aren't our 'Normal July' heat temps, these are our August into Sept. temperatures!

Those are exactly what I thought would happen, so glad it's moved and really hope it doesn't head our way.

Re: The good night and good morning thread
Stayed up late 'AGAIN' watching the DNC speeches and all the hoopla - got up and outside by 6am for my chicken chores - thunder & lightening rolling in now so mowing might have to wait until tomorrow.
Helped my widowed neighbor set up yet another flip phone {this makes 3 within the past 2 months}; don't know why his children are trying to torture this old dude but swapping out phones with his failing memory is just pure torture and they just can't seem to understand - STOP GETTING THOSE WITH THE TEENY-TINY BUTTONS. His hands shake with palsy and he can't hear to well and he forgets what he's supposed to do; so luckily this phone has a VOICE prompt that will walk him through and respond to his requests and I've loaded his phone book on there for him --- now if he just won't loose it
My thought for the day =
Some one derailed my 'Fairy Godmother' and I think I know which one of
my wicked-twisted sisters would do that!

I couldn't find my small baking sheet, wanted to make biscuits!eddie wrote:Yes! Half cold cups of tea and coffee.

I finally gave up and opened the oven door - just incase, ya-know ...last ditch place to look, since it couldn't grow legs and just walk off!
Yipper, there it was, still sitting in the oven - now with a very cold - mummified hunk of French bread - made into pizza toast ...guess I'd left it in there to cool off - at least the oven timer had shut the oven off automatically; or I'd have had a fire!

Re: The good night and good morning thread
I developed a 'clothes pin' system; I've had so many neighbors homes to care for when they've been gone that tending their landscapes & watering chores was a lengthy process - especially when out of 5 neighbors 2 or 3 might be gone at the same time.
One neighbor's landscape watering had to be done every other day for 15 minute - 25 minute segments; new lawn and new bushes new flowers ...so the sprinklers were set to timers and the soaker hoses were set according to water flow and I'd set my phone alarm and go off to the other homes. Since I needed some system to remember what homes I had to check on what day - I labeled each home their own wooden clip style clothes pen and attached it to my T-Shirt Pocket and as I finished up their yards and turned off their water systems/sprinklers their clothes pens went back on to my bulletin board by my back door. I have my own for my 'Chickens' - My Well Water as well ...that way I never come in and sit down - fall asleep with my wooden clothes pen still stuck to my shirt. If all my outside chores are finished my wooden pen is placed right next to the others --- and if it's not then there's something I've left 'undone' out side and I need to finish UP!
CRS = can't remember shit ...has become a reality in my world. LOL
