Christian Concern: Tom Daley came out because his father died so Jamaica should keep its buggery law
A British Christian anti-gay group has taken to Jamaica to urge the country to keep its buggery law, and has suggested Tom Daley is in a relationship with a man because his father died.
Christian conservatives in Jamaica are being urged by activists from the US and UK to resist against calls for the country to repeal its buggery law.
The conference was organised in order to lobby against the repeal of the country’s law banning gay sex. The Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller suggested the law might come to a vote, but her government has taken no action yet.
Speaking at a conference organised by the Coalition for a Healthy Society in Kingston, Jamaica on Saturday, was the founder of Christian Concern Andrea Minichiello Williams, who was joined by Peter LaBarbera, the founder of the adamantly anti-gay Americans for Truth About Homosexuality.
I must admit to being a bit surprised by the age gap and did indeed think that Tom was looking for a replacement father figure, but to suggest that by losing his father that turned him gay is complete and utter hogwash, before these Christian nutjobs make their ridiculous statements they should consider if bereavement would incline them to sleep with someone of the same sex.

It isn't uncommon for younger gay men as well as younger straight females to seek out the attention of older men, can't understand this myself but each to their own!

Speaking of Daley, who came out last week on YouTube, she said he was “loved by all the girls and had girlfriends, until he “lost his father to cancer just a few years ago and he’s just come out on YouTube that he’s in a relationship with a man, that man is 39, a leading gay activist in the States.” She alluded to rumours that Daley is dating Dustin Lance Black, screenwriter of ‘Milk’, despite that neither party has confirmed the relationship.
Going on to agree with Labarabera with the claim that gay people are not born with same-sex attraction, noted Tom Daley, in saying that can be “caused” by “the lack of the father”, and “sometimes a level of abuse”, suggesting a link between his father’s death and his same-sex attraction.
She also said in her speech that Jamaica should turn down aid from countries in the US and Europe, in favour of fighting against the repeal of the law.
“Might it be that Jamaica says to the United States of America, says to Europe, ‘Enough! You cannot come in and attack our families. We will not accept aid or promotion tied to an agenda that is against God and destroys our families… If you win here, you will have an impact in the Caribbean and an impact across the globe.”
BuzzFeed reports that the Justice Minister Mark Golding has said that he hoped to raise it in 2014 as part of a broader review of sexual offence laws.
LaBarbera slammed the US and UK for moves towards equality for LGBT people. He said: “Do not be like us, do not be like Britain, do not sit idly by as so-called ‘LGBT activists’ manipulate words and laws to achieve dominance in your country.
“Homosexuals are made, they’re not born,” LaBarbera continued. “The dirty little secret that the media and homosexual activists are desperate — desperate — to squelch is that people are coming out of homosexuality every day. This is the work of God, this is the work of Jesus.”
LaBarbera went on to name people who had undergone “ex-gay” conversion therapy, a practice widely condemned by medical practitioners across the world, before suggesting a link between homosexuality and paedophilia, which he is currently working on a book about.
“Homosexuals are always on offense… It’s another secret that American activists don’t like to tell is that NAMBLA, the North American Man-Boy Love Association, used to march in gay pride parades.”
Minichiello Williams also claimed there is a link between homosexuality and paedophilia, saying: “Once you strip away all this stuff, what you get is no age consent … nobody ever enforces that law anymore,” she said. “We already have a strong man-boy movement that’s moving in Europe.”
LaBarbera concluded: “I do not stand with my government. I’m a patriotic American, but I do not stand with the current United States government in its promotion of homosexuality and gender confusion. But I do stand with the Jamaican people … I pray that you will learn from our mistakes and from lessons of history and avoid the inevitable moral corruption and health hazards and the danger to young people that come from capitulating to this sin movement that calls itself gay. It is almost now can be predicted with 100 percent accuracy, if the law is a teacher: If you take down this law, it will only lead to more demands. Appeasement does not work.”
Same sex activity is illegal in Jamaica for both men and women and those found guilty can face up to 10 years in prison. Jamaica is often criticised for perpetuating stigma around being gay, and several LGBT people have been murdered in recent months.
In a YouTube broadcast, the 19-year-old London 2012 bronze medallist said: “In spring this year my life changed massively when I met someone, and they make me feel so happy, so safe and everything just feels great. .. that someone is a guy”.
He has since said “it was love at first sight”, when he met his boyfriend, but has not named who that is.

Re: Christian Concern: Tom Daley came out because his father died so Jamaica should keep its buggery law
Whilst i can understand that some might be confused about the age gap between Tom & Dustin, and i thought it to be a bit strange at first and i did think perhaps he was looking for a father type figure, remembered my time at a gay youth group when i first came out and a couple of my mates were going out with older guys and were quite happy about that.
These idiotic Christian groups seem to forget that in the straight world there are also big age gaps in some relationships.
Each to their own and all that!

WTF
why dont you have age of consent laws for homosexuals? we have age of consent laws for Homosexuals. Maybe if you weren't trying to put them in jail for having sex with someone they love you could try that.

Right wing extremists have always tried to link homosexuality to paedophelia

Re: Christian Concern: Tom Daley came out because his father died so Jamaica should keep its buggery law
No joke, Catman. I once had a co-worker who considered herself really open-minded but didn't like another guy at the office who used to tell pedophile jokes. She said -- and I shit you not -- "I find that very offensive, because some of my good friends are gay." My jaw just dropped ...

@ Ben
You know what....We live in a very Multicultural area, a bit of a sleepy enclave in this part of Lewisham SE London...There are all walks of life in this area...Mixed race couples, gay couples (there is another gay couple that has moved over the road from us)...Straight white couples, old people....Owner occupiers and those that live side by side in subsidized accomodation!
We have lived here for over ten years now, we have never experienced any kind of intimidation at all, there have been one or two instances with one neighbour, who has since been got rid of.

....I think that Multiculturalism works in this area, because we have learnt to understand each others differences, and now we embrace our differences, or rather we have done for decades, in this town!

Has anyone noticed that on the promo for the new Splash series, Tom is wearing pink nail varnish on his toes?.....The perils of going out with a very well known gay activist perhaps!

This is neo-colonial homophobia at its worse- it is the same right across Africa as we see most starkly in Uganda. Christian conservatives from the UK and USA, bitter the progress of equality in their own countries, are going on 'missions' preaching anti-gay crap supporting laws which criminalize homosexuality- which just shows their real wishes and intents here in the west.
It is pathetic- and they will still lose since equal rights tend toward a positive trend. It would be funny if it weren't so tragic for gay people in developing countries

India and Russia are major causes for concern as well, and Cameron hasn't exactly rebuked India for it's stance either which i found was a bit of a cause for concern.

It is a cause for concern, but to be expected after his trip to China went without criticism of human rights; trade wins out for the government where 'Big' economic powers are concerned...
At least it seems the UN might have something to say.
