Vice President Biden's son dies of brain cancer

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said on Saturday his son Beau has died after battling brain cancer.

"The entire Biden family is saddened beyond words. We know that Beau’s spirit will live on in all of us, especially through his brave wife, Hallie, and two remarkable children, Natalie and Hunter," a statement released by the White House said.

Earlier this month, Biden, 46, a former Delaware attorney general, was reported to be undergoing treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center outside Washington.

Sad to hear -- he always seemed like a bright, decent guy with a promising future.

Me too -- and that family has seen so much loss, it really has to be testing their strength. It's a shame because most of the Biden family seem to take a lot of inspiration from Papa Joe, happy to be fighting the good fight and glad for what the world gives them, instead of being bitter over everything that has been taken from them. It's appropriate that Obama deemed his VP the "happy warrior," because you can just tell that he takes every kick in the teeth that life deals him, spits out the blood with a grin and gets up for another go-round, full of joy that he's still in the fight.

Always sad to hear that someone has died so young.
