is it penny pinching profiteering by a company or the cost of demand for cheaper and cheaper holidays...
it cannot happen again either way.

I would have thought it was the responsibility of the hotel.

This is what I'm wondering. I don't know if they're supposed to check stuff like that. I know that landlords in the UK have to check gas fittings and boilers every year, but a letting agency wouldn't be responsible would they?

Re: such a tragedy, 2 young children lost..
Tour operator Thomas Cook has been told it should "hang its head in shame" after a jury found it "breached its duty of care" over the deaths of two children on holiday in Corfu.
"They do not expect to return from holiday with their children in coffins because Thomas Cook staff failed to properly check the standards of the hotel they stayed in.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Greek hotel owners lie to Thompson by telling them the boiler had been serviced properly?

Landlords are under an obligation to have things like gas boilers checked by British Gas for example & the checks are carried out annually with a certificate being issued if all is in order.
Following the inspection, you wouldn't expect the landlord to check the boiler themselves as they rely on the certificate of inspection.

According to the article, the hotel told Thomas Cook that there were no gas-fuelled water heaters. I dunno - should they have checked that out for themselves maybe?
I'd have to check it out more because the boiler was in an outbuilding, so I'm not sure how the children got poisoned.

Landlords are, yes, but are letting agents responsible for making sure landlords do that?
I bet most tenants don't ask to see that certificate. I would - I once lived in a house where the boiler caught fire!
