Lord Mandelson Savages Ed Miliband's 'Completely Useless' Election Campaign

Lord Mandelson Savages Ed Miliband's 'Completely Useless' Election Campaign
Lord Mandelson has savaged Ed Miliband's core economic message as "completely useless", as Labour's leadership battle gets underway.
In a brutal critique of Miliband's five years at the top of Labour, Mandelson said the party had made a fatal mistake by abandoning Tony Blair's approach. He also said Labour should end the trade unions' "abuse and inappropriate" influence over its leadership selection process.
“The awful, shocking thing about this election is Labour could have won it,” he told the BBC's Andrew Marr Show. “The reason we lost it and lost it so badly is in 2010 we discarded New Labour, rather than revitalising it and reenergising it and making it relevant for the new times, the new policy challenges that we faced. That was a terrible mistake.”
The former business secretary also said Labour's campaign had given the impression it was for the poor and hated the rich "ignoring completely the vast swathe of the population who exist in between".

As I have always said, the best weapon the Tories had in this election was the self defeating Ed Miliband.

I have been saying for ages the same.
The moment the awful woman came out with holding Labour to ransom, Labour had the kiss of death. They already were facing an uphill struggle with a leader less popular than Cameron. What chance did Labour really think they had with someone less popular than Cameron. It shows he was never going to be the right choice but in fact be their own downfall.
So I agree Labour lost and the left played the only part in this
All the best and catch you later

I thought Miliband was OK in the debates - he's not a raging leftie anyway.

The only people who won were the media barons who stirred up racial hatred against Scotland and lied through their back teeth so they don't have to pay their fair share of taxes. As for Meddlesome, he can go jump in the lake, we want a socialist party, not the mini cons he produced. His day is well and truly over.

What racial hatred against Scotland? Are you saying that the Scottish are a race? If so, do you also think that the English are a race?

If you stir up hatred against a country it is known as racial hatred, if you stir up hatred against a religion it is known as racial hatred, even if the members of that religion live in many countries. It's just a way of defining 'en bloc' hatred.

Don't you mean xenophobia?
Anyway, how did anyone try to stir up hatred against the Scots?

So let me get this straight, you think newspapers are a reliable source of truthful information and that people like rags cannot research for themselves and should always trust papers then?
Are you really that completely gullible?
It would explain your profound antisemitism views I guess, that you are so easily taken in

No, there was far too much of their lies and manipulation. Perhaps if you just looked at the front pages of the Mail, Telegraph etc for the day before and the day of the election, you might get an idea of how they threw 'journalism' to the wolves and settled for scaremongering and complete lies. Journalism died, influence and power was all.

Not going to happen, it will be Dan Jarvis:
Who is Dan Jarvis? Meet the Labour leadership candidate who terrifies the Tories
You may not have heard of Dan Jarvis - but the ex-army Major is called the "steely eyed messenger of death" by colleagues, and he could be the next Labour leader
Of the many names being thrown around to be the next leader of the Labour party , Dan Jarvis is one that many won't recognise - but his is the name that gives the Tories the fear.
He's 42 and form Nottingham. He's only been MP for Barnsley Central since a 2011 by-election, and most people outside of Westminster have never heard of him.
So who is Dan Jarvis? How did he get the nickname "steely messenger of death?"
And why does the idea of him succeeding Ed Miliband make Conservatives nervous?
Here's everything you need to know.
He's an ex-army Major and Iraq War veteran
As an Army paratrooper, Major Dan Jarvis MBE served in Northern Ireland, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.
He was deployed to Afghanistan twice, first on recon missions to Helmand Province, followed by a six-month tour as a company commander with the Special Forces.
He resigned his commission in March 2011 following the death of his wife, Caroline, from cancer. He was awarded an MBE in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours list.
He's had a quick rise to party prominence
Labour's Dan Jarvis gives a thumbs up to his supporters as he celebrates his victory in the Metrodome Complex, Barnsley
Jarvis joined the Labour party at 18, but had to put politics on hold while he served in the military.
He was selected for Barnsley Central after the resignation of Eric Illsley, who was convicted of fraud in the expenses scandal.
He ran a fierce campaign, which was nicknamed "Operation Honey Badger" after the notoriously ruthless and vicious mammal.
Jarvis was elected on a 60.8% share of the vote in the by-election, and made the move to Westminster.
He was almost immediately made Shadow Arts and Culture minister, and in his 2013 reshuffle, Ed Miliband named him Shadow Justice Minister.
What about the time he took on a mugger and won
You do not want to mess with this Dan
In March, a man made the mistake of trying to mug ex-paratrooper Jarvis in London's King's Cross station.
He said: "This guy came up to me with a bottle and tried to kill me. I walked into the Tube and the man, who was clearly very drunk and aggressive, came over and said if I didn't give him my wallet he would break the bottle over my head.
"I said 'that's not going to happen' and we stood and faced each other off for what seemed like quite a long time.
"I had visions of us rolling around on the platform, but thankfully it didn't come to that."
The incident got tongues wagging around Westminster, earned him a nickname among insiders - the "steely messenger of death."
Why is he the Tories' worst nightmare?
The list of favourites to succeed Ed Miliband is full of familiar names - Chukka Umunna, Yvette Cooper and Andy Burnham, to name just three.
But one of Labour's big problems in this election was that their leader seemed like an awkward Westminster policy wonk that ordinary people can't relate to. None of the names above solves that problem.
Dan Jarvis, on the other hand isn't seen as a Westminster insider. While others have been plotting their long political careers, he's been busy risking his life in service of his country in the military. And military service has long been something more associated with the right than the left.
Even the Tory-leaning Spectator spoke warmly about Jarvis when they interviewed him in 2012 - describing him as sincere and determined, can appeal to ordinary people and understands the need for Labour to appeal to the centre ground,
In short, he's seen as having all the qualities Ed Miliband fatally lacked as leader.
That's why he's the Tories' worst nightmare.
Is he likely to be leader?
He's currently the bookies' third favourite to win the leadership, behind Andy Burnham Chukka Umunna - which isn't bad for a man that nobody's heard of.
Labour leadership races are notoriously brutal, but if he can convince members and Unions that they need to look outside the Westminster bubble for their next leader, he could be in with a chance.

Re: Lord Mandelson Savages Ed Miliband's 'Completely Useless' Election Campaign
so you have got yourself a war hero
great...
BUT
the poor chap is STILL going to have to convive people that the labour turd is shinier than the conservative turd.
see my above post...
labour ARE
Wrong on immigration
and misjudged public opinion
Wrong on how to deal with the mess their predecessors made
and misjudged public opinion
wrong on just about everything else
and STILL misjudge public opinion
why??
because being prats they ONLY listen to small noisy minorities
8 weeks from the election Yvette cooper alienated 1 million potential voters in an instant, because of her and a few noisy nutters hatered of the shooting community....basically branding us all "rich toffs" when the REALITY is 90% of shooters are working folks. Not only that she utterly ignored all that has happened in the last 12 months vis licencing fees....
guaranteed to get folks backs up....
and the harsh reality is that it is NOT the issue of shooting or licences for said activity at all.....
The ISSUE of course is "attiutude"
the tories are hard faced, uncaring etc etc etc
but people can live with that
they cant live with duplicitous two faced panderers who bend this way and that to appease the loudest noisemakers...especially if it makes a few quide for them to waste on said noisemakers....
great...

And it goes deeper than any of you can imagine
the tories promise to get rid of the HRA
and replace it with a british bill of rights
and people support this (evidently)
now why???
after all if the lefties on here are right, britain is full of socialist sheep obediantly bleating the red flag
obviously not....
and it appears a few more have woken up...
perhaps the lefties "overegged the pudding"
too many lefty judges twisting the HRA to suit their political games
It needs sorting
labour had no intention of doing so.....
I think you will soon see a harsher attitude to immigration too.....
this time Labour had no real message or plan that appeals to ordinary folk just drone drone drone (Oh and BE a drone)
and a leader that lacked any appeal....

Dan Jarvis has ruled himself out of the running to be Labour leader, saying he has to put his family first.
The former army major was considered to be one of the favourites for the role in the wake of Ed Miliband's resignation.
Writing in tomorrow's Times, Mr Jarvis said he was "ready to serve" as Labour seeks to rebuild, but not as leader.
He said: "It's not the right time for my family.
"My eldest kids had a very tough time when they lost their mum and I don't want them to lose their dad.
"I need some space for them, my wife and our youngest child right now, and I wouldn't have it as Leader of the Opposition."
