Abbott on torture: sometimes you got to do what you got to do
http://www.news.com.au/national/please-explain-on-torture-shorten-asks-pm/story-fncynjr2-1226762399260
OPPOSITION Leader Bill Shorten wants Prime Minister Tony Abbott to explain the circumstances in which he thinks torture is acceptable.
While in Sri Lanka for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, Mr Abbott said his government deplores the use of torture but accepts that difficult things sometimes happen in difficult circumstances.
"I don't think he should be fudging about torture," Mr Shorten told Sky News on Monday.
"Mr Abbott is going to have to explain what are the difficult circumstances in which torture is appropriate."

http://www.theage.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/tony-abbotts-boats-gift-to-sri-lanka-comes-under-fire-20131117-2xp5z.html
the background:
Abbott has given Sri Lanka gov't 2 paramilitary vessels, stating it will help to prevent Illegal Immigrants (refugees) here. this is while British Prime Minister David Cameron is calling on the Sri Lankan Gov't to face War crimes investigations.
the Greens slammed the boats given by Australian government as "collaboration on Sri Lanka's human rights abuses."
"Sri Lanka is not a transit country. People are escaping from torture and abuse," the Greens leader Christine Milne said. (I vote Greens)

When pressed, Mr. Abbott replied that if the terrorists are going to set off nukes in a major city and Jack Bauer is the only man who can stop them, Jack should be allowed to smack around anyone he has in custody to get the answers he needs.
At least in America, that would not be satire:

@ben
if only it was that good.
Mr Abbott Supports the Use of Torture IF it will stop them the tortured reaching Australia to as Refugee (on Boats, oddly he never mentions the majority of illegal immigrants that arrive by Plane) . A no point do the Tortured ever pose any threat to Australia except they might ask for our help, and Mr Abbott doesn't want that.
I think we have elected our Bush
