we know too weel that doctors and the nhs are "over streched" and I am quite in agreement that a lot of this is due to unnecessary visits by people

NOW

should we therfore

teach basic health care to kids in schools...
that is to say how to treat minor injuries
minor ilnesses
and so on

AND at the same time get MORE medication OFF prescription to enable folks to self treat

for example i have type II diabetes...controlled by tablets and diet

I have to see bother my doc every couple of months for repeat perscriptions

and that is a cost that is not needed...

the cost of the tablets is miniscule.....(but I do get em free of course) however

the regular consultations must be a fair old cost...

some of the "older" antibiotics could safely be released

and so on.....

on the continent you can get a neomycin wound spray...

very effective and very useful

We should also be teaching how to dress wounds

90% of people with even quite significant wounds, whether traumatic or post operative SHOULD be capable of routinely changing those dressings, and be able to make a sensible decision as to whether or not the wound needs checking by a nurse or if its healing OK...

so why not just supply with the necessary dressings and let people get on with it

every injury I have had I have done the dressings and the last two significant injuries (one a circular saw cut , the other a severe knife wound..accidental not criminal) were self treated from the start....

easier cheaper and less time consuming for me....

just a thought....

a whole heap of A&E visits are unnecessry and so are a whole heap of Drs appointments

yes agree they should teach more basic health care
but people suck too much for it to work well Rolling Eyes

Plus the medical community has geared itself towards constant checkups, more profitable for the doc to have you visit and get his fee just to write you a script than have to solve a real medical issue Cool And the system knows doctors do this so it pays them less per visit than the cost of diagnosing a real illness knowing that they will pick up the short fall with 'refill visits' like yours.

10% of our annual NHS budget (£10billion) goes to treating diabetes, 90% of which is considered to be completely avoidable...

With massively higher rates being from certain immigrant groups...
