Man dies after being restrained by police in Paignton
A man who became unconscious while being restrained by police outside a bar in Devon has died in hospital.
The 38-year-old was restrained outside Murphy's Roadhouse on the Esplanade in Paignton on Wednesday night, as police responded to reports of a disturbance between two men and door staff. He was taken to Torbay District Hospital, where he died on Saturday. The matter had already been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission before the man's death. Assistant Chief Constable Russ Middleton said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with the family, and we are providing support at this difficult time. "

Would need more on this story to comment. Was he on drugs? Violent? Did he fall whilst being restrained and hit his head?

I know the story is a tad lacking as to what happened.

Are you suggesting that this fits into a pattern in the history of Paignton?
To get groups of people upset there generally has to be something larger going on. Certainly the death of this one man is a concern, but it appears the authorities are pursuing that concern. I could suggest other cities where they would want to sweep it under the rug because of a larger picture.
