Ed Miliband punched and shoved by protesters as he walks to car
Witnesses said around six protesters - some wearing masks bearing the face of ex-SNP leader Alex Salmond - surrounded Mr Miliband, with at least one of them punching him
Ed Miliband was punched and shoved by protesters yesterday in a "disgusting" attack.
Thugs ambushed the Labour leader as he attempted to get in his waiting car after an election campaign event.
Witnesses said around six protesters - some wearing masks bearing the face of ex-SNP leader Alex Salmond - surrounded Mr Miliband, with at least one of them punching him in the chest.
Labour activist Rachel Penn, 42, said: "He was pretty shaken up. It was quite dramatic.
"His path was blocked by two people who were being very aggressive. He was shoved out of the way and couldn't get in the car.
"One guy punched Ed in the chest and shut the car door so he couldn't get in."
Labour supporter Neil McEwan said: "The group came out of nowhere. Ed only had four of five steps to get to the car but they set upon him immediately.
"He was definitely pushed but he shrugged it off and made his way to the far side of the car.
"Ed had to push his way through them to get into the car. It was over very quickly but it was shocking."
Witnesses said they did not see Mr Miliband's minders at the time of the attack in Rotherhithe, South East London, at around noon.
Sebastian Payne, managing editor (digital) of The Spectator magazine, tweeted a picture of Tory activists wearing Mr Salmond masks.
However, the Tories "categorically" denied that anybody working for them or known to them went anywhere near Mr Miliband.
A senior source told the Telegraph: "To suggest anything else is a lie."
The fracas will pose questions about his security arrangements as he bids to oust David Cameron as Prime Minister.
A Labour spokesman last night declined to comment on the skirmish.
The incident did not hamper Mr Miliband's performance in the first major TV set piece of the election campaign later.
The Labour leader came out all guns blazing in his interview with Jeremy Paxman in the Battle For Number 10, broadcast on Channel 4 and Sky.
He tackled difficult questions about his leadership race with brother David and whether his personality was a turn-off for voters.
The Prime Minister, by contrast, was left stuttering as Paxman hit him with early questions about food banks and zero hours contracts.
Mr Miliband launches the Labour Party's election campaign at London's Olympic Park today.

It just shows how desperate they are and how they see Ed as a credible threat to them.
Disgusting gits - whoever they are.

Agreed Nicko and both incidents completely wrong to happen to Nigel and Miliband, but you did not see the two left wing extremists come out and condemn, we saw one of them actually try to defend what happened to Nigel and his family.

I agree with you for once.
I do not condone anyone attacking Ed M, even though I'm not going to be voting Labour.

My first thoughts are, this could be a set up by the conservative party. It would not be the first time they have carried out dirty, meddling tricks to literally attack an opposition M.P . Hague, has been caught getting his hands dirty recently along with a few other of the cronies he hangs out with.

That was the picture of the Tory supporters above, wearing the masks, so I think in this case Jane, 2 + 2 = 4 quite definitely.
As for Farage, he had a diversity group try to ask him questions which he didn't like so left under his own steam, not in the least bit the same. They should not have jumped on his car, but he was never touched.

Where is the evidence that they were Tory supporters?

Re: Ed Miliband punched and shoved by protesters as he walks to car
I've just pointed it out, the picture of the Tory supporters who were waiting outside and the description of his attackers. I'm sure there were hundreds of people wandering around wearing Alex Salmond masks lol

Why would wearing an Alex Salmond mask indicate that someone was a Tory supporter? Perhaps I've missed something.

Think you have:
Sebastian Payne, managing editor (digital) of The Spectator magazine, tweeted a picture of Tory activists wearing Mr Salmond masks.
That is their favourite thing at the moment, saying the Labour Party is being manipulated by the SNP, like hell they are, but they want to spread the lie until the easily confused believe it.

I hardly call his children being frightened who ran off, even though these intolerant tried to claim otherwise, more so for damage limitations after the country as a majority rightly condemned their behaviour.
Yet still you defend this, where you do not counter someone with intolerant views by acting intolerant themselves, of which this is what they did.
Hence why I rightly as others condemn what has happened here to Miliband and to Farage, even though I think the pair of them are idiots. Nobody should suffer such questions and it was clearly more than questions, (yet more damage limitation after the event by those involved, knowing they have been condemned), for his children to flee scared.

This is just the same as what happened to Farage except this is accepted as gospel and Farage's claims were dismissed.
I don't get it? Just because you like a party, does it make you blind to supporting another if they are being attacked?
Bias is truly blinding. Im so glad I cannot be blinded so easily.

100% correct Eddie, both situations were wrong, if you try to justify one, you are in no position to condemn the other, as in both situations the intent was to intimidate.
Hence why both incidents should be condemned.

This was witnessed by journalists and Farage's account was later shown to be false.

I do not think so, that was a claim made by those who intimidated for damage limitation purposes.
His kids being frightened and fleeing is testimony of who intimidating.
Seriously, they set out to intimidate him in numbers, that is wrong on every level.

Who claimed it was false?
Farage said his children "went missing" becasue they were scared.
Far as I know no one has disputed that? And if there were people jumping on Farage's car, doesn't that show that the protesters were more than a little unhinged?
