Jews for Peace - Statement in Response to NGO Monitor Report Empty Jews for Peace - Statement in Response to NGO Monitor Report

The extreme right-wing organization NGO Monitor released a report on July 8 about Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) which was apparently intended to be an expose of JVP's mission, activities and goals.

JVP is proud to be an organization that is a home and a voice for those who share our values of working toward a truly just peace for all the people of Israel and Palestine. What NGO Monitor portrays as an attempt to split the Jewish community is in fact an accurate reflection of the growing divide in the Jewish community about Israel’s ongoing occupation and unequal treatment of Palestinians.

JVP’s principles, inspired by Jewish tradition, of supporting equality and human rights, have never wavered. We believe that BDS campaigns are one of the effective strategies toward that goal. As such we are proud to support student and church efforts to divest from companies that profit from the occupation, and of our own role in founding the “We Divest” campaign to urge TIAA-CREF to divest from these companies as well, in addition to the wide array of other activities we engage in in pursuit of our goals.

NGO Monitor has a long history, broadly documented, of attacking any organization that it believes is effectively criticizing Israeli policies. The organizations NGO Monitor has attacked include Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, B’tselem, Breaking the Silence, Al Haq, and the New Israel Fund, to name just a few. We are honored to be among them.

I stand with them, not the RW nutjobs that want nothing more than the lands that the bible tells them belongs to them.

JVP's Rabbinical Council

The Jewish Voice for Peace Rabbinical Council has come together to speak out on behalf of justice for all peoples in the Middle East. A fast growing network of rabbis, cantors and rabbinical students, we support each other through bi-annual in-person gatherings, in our Mentorship and Support Program, and ongoing consultation. Since our founding in 2010, Rabbinical Council members' writing has been  published in outlets such as Ha’aretz, The Forward, Huffington Post and the JTA. These and more can be found on our blog, www.PalestinianTalmud.com . We create ritual materials and alternative Jewish liturgies for JVP, and provide support for JVP members, chapters, and campaigns. Many individual members are available for speaking
