I actually once had hopes he was a different kind of Republican, particularly after he made the comment that Republicans should "stop being the stupid party." Sadly, he's been just about as stupid as the average Republican.

Republicans are liars. Here's the deal: the position of conservatism in untenable...it favors only the special interests. There are very few votes among those enjoying special interests. So in order to win elections, conservatives can't just be straight up like liberals and Democrats.

Therefore, conservatives must deceive...they must represent themselves as that which they are not. They lie about cheating on their wives, just as they lie to get us into wars. It comes easy for them. Their overall idea is a form of elitism: the little people won't know, and shouldn't be told.
