Three Muslim-Americans were murdered at an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill on 10 February 2015, in what appears to be an anti-Muslim terrorist attack. All three were shot in the head. Hours after the attack (which occurred at 5pm EST), there was very little media coverage, and no national coverage by any major news outlets. It ultimately took 15-17 hours for leading news outlets to publish stories about the shooting.

Family members have confirmed on social media that the victims were Deah Barakat, his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, and her sister Razan Abu-Salha.

It was a horrific murder, but how is it a terrorist action?

Motivation?
Aims of this attack?
Who was he trying to instill terror with?

Authorities have not yet specified a motive for the killings yet, so how about waiting to find out what it was that did motivate him.

US police in North Carolina have arrested a man after three Muslim students were found dead in their home.

Craig Stephen Hicks, 46, is charged with the triple murder of Deah Barakat, his wife Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha and her sister Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha.

They were discovered on Tuesday, all with gunshots to their heads.

Police say there had been an ongoing parking dispute but they are still investigating whether the attack was hate-motivated.

The fact that all three students were Muslims has led to speculation on social media about whether their faith played a role in the shooting.

The preliminary investigation indicates the crime was motivated by an "ongoing neighbour dispute over parking," Chapel Hill police said in a statement.

There are still questions over what could have motivated Mr Hicks to commit such a senseless and tragic act, Chief Chris Blue said.

"We understand the concerns about the possibility that this was hate-motivated and we will exhaust every lead to determine if that is the case."

We condemn this horrible killing and we commit, with even more purpose, to speaking out and acting against anti-Muslim and anti-Arab violence and bigotry, from here in North Carolina in solidarity with Muslims for Social Justice and in our work in solidarity with Palestine to end the Israeli Occupation.

Those of us who are white people, and non-Muslims, know that we have SUCH a great responsibility to call out racism and Islamophobia where and when we see it. Especially in our OWN families, communities, and houses of worship, where white silence only perpetuates violence and ignorance. There is no excuse for our silence.

NO-ONE could EVER kill a Muslim...simply because they were pissed with them over something entirely removed from "fait"...OH no.....just like the Jew, and the coloured person, and almost every other group that the authorities consider a "protected species" ANY act against them is "wacist"

untill and unless a definable racist motive is found...how about applying some sense to this and WAITING for the investigation.......

Bang on the money and you know I would be the first to make the case for terrorism if there was one, but this seems to be something that has started from a dispute from the little evidence we know. Yes held anti religious views, which does not mean this was the motivation of which even if it was does not mean it is terrorism, which is as we know to strike fear into a named enemy of specific cause. Much has to be learn here, but there is no terrorism link here at all from what I can see.
As I stated, motivations need to be clarified. What if there was the terror aim?
People are wrongly jumping over this as if this diminishes Islamist terrorism.

UPDATE 3:15 P.M.: In a press conference, Hicks' wife of seven years, Karen, said she "never would have expected this," but said that the shooting had nothing to do with race or religion, and everything to do with parking problems.
"This incident had nothing to do with religion or victims’ faith but instead had to do with the longstanding parking disputes that my husband had with the neighbors," she said, choking back tears. "He often champions on his Facebook page for the rights of many individuals. Same sex marriages, abortion, race, he just believes that everyone is equal. Doesn’t matter what you look like or who you are or what you believe."

She said she didn't know what drove Hicks to allegedly shoot three people over a parking spat, but her lawyers said that the suspect didn't single out the victims and had spats with other neighbors in the past. Hicks' ex-wife, Kristen, told The Huffington Post that she hadn't "heard from or seen him in 10 years," and had no further comment.
Still, the father of two victims, Dr. Mohammad Abu-Salha, believes hate led to the killings.
"It was execution style, a bullet in every head," he told the News Observer. "This was not a dispute over a parking space; this was a hate crime. This man had picked on my daughter and her husband a couple of times before, and he talked with them with his gun in his belt. And they were uncomfortable with him, but they did not know he would go this far."

now if the Muslim screamed aluha akbar or whatever it is...then maybe......

Well I agree too,
guy seems like he is racist but this is not terrorism and doesn't seem 'random' does seem there was a dispute. his racism probably caused it fatal escalate so it a factor but probably not the cause.

All those believing the rubbish about it being a parking dispute, if a Muslim walked into the home of a white Christian, shot three of them in the head execution style, had pictures on facebook of his gun and hatred of Christians, you would believe someone who said it was a parking dispute! Course you would - not.

Killing someone because of their beliefs is terrorism, you can skirt round it anyway you like.

Using politically motivated tactics to inspire fear in the general population is Terrorism. We dilute the word terrorism by expanding it to include all hate crimes and murders where there is religious differences. I believe it is media beat up, "make it seem that every incident is part of a simmering war, part of some bigger conspiracy, you need to fear anything different, you need to trust you gov't to protect you" lets add atheist to the list of terrorists and let police shoot them without issue like Blacks and Muslims.. OK, I'll give you it's not terrorism, but it is a hate crime and if it had been the other way round the press WOULD have reported it differently.

Some very odd witness reports from the area coming in, about people about before the shooting and the police saying there was no problem after the shooting, will keep an eye on it.

This is the problem here, because people are applying this crime to terrorism when it is a murder and basing the amount of coverage to a murder than a terrorist murder receives based on the religion of the victims.
I am not bought this is racist either and if it was over him losing the plot over the dispute you then have to ask how many civil disputes that turn ugly get as much attention or even a hate crime as this murder has done? What some people are wrongly doing here is using the amount of publicity of a terrorist killing to claim a murder should have the same publicity and only off the victims here being Muslims. In other words they are wrongly equating this to terrorism to some how wrongly down play the terrorist actions of Islamist's.

Nobody is denying that actually in the world like in Africa or Asia where there is persecution and the murder of Muslims it does not receive the same media spotlight, but then the hundreds killed by Boko Haram was low in the media compared to the French attacks. It will always be in the western press over events happened to westerners. Is that wrong, of course, but to equate this for what I see civil dispute and at worst hate crime, this has received as much and if not more than a race hate crime .
