More patients endured 12 hour waits on trolleys in January than the whole of the last two years

More casualty patients were forced to wait on trolleys for longer than 12 hours in January than for the whole of the last two years combined, new statistics have shown.

Between January 4 and 25, 650 patients waited at least half a day for a bed in Accident and Emergency units.

The figure is in stark contrast to NHS statistics which show just 648 people waited for beds between January 2013 and December 2014.

Bed-blocking also rose to its highest level this winter - and higher than at any point last year - with 4,300 hospitals beds unavailable for incoming patients because of delays in transfers of occupants to care elsewhere, up from 4,200 in the previous week.

Labour said the figures showed that patients were being exposed to unacceptable risk.

This is really ridiculous and that clown Hunt needs to be shown the door for the state our A&E units are in. Absolutely shocking figures.
