My response to that nonsense would be that once again we see a right-wing argument framed on an illogical premise, that men and women need to have some "idea of who's supposed to do what."

My advice to conservatives who find this so confusing would be to find a partner who agrees with you on what the roles are "supposed" to be. I think that's probably happening all the time, and that the actual problem conservatives have is that they get scared thinking about what life might be like for people who don't have to follow rigid societal norms.
