David Cameron failed to win the 2010 general election because the party lacked “economic credibility”, a former senior Conservative Cabinet minister has said.

Liam Fox, who is seen as a standard-bearer of the Tory Right, said Mr Cameron and George Osborne - at the time the shadow Chancellor- were wrong to promise that the Tories would match Labour’s spending plans in 2007.

The party then abandoned that commitment in the wake of the financial crisis – a decision which Dr Fox said damaged the party in the eyes of the voters.

They certainly did on that as well as Osborne championing the Irish economic model as the path Britain should take.

Luckily they weren't in power of we would have gone really bust with him at the helm.
