Apple Releases "Automatic" Security Update On Macs For The First Time

Apple Inc has pushed out its first-ever automated security update to Macintosh computers to help defend against newly identified bugs that security researchers have warned could enable hackers to gain remote control of machines.
The company pushed out the software on Monday to fix critical security vulnerabilities in a component of its OS X operating system called the network time protocol, or NTP, according to Apple spokesman Bill Evans.NTP is used for synchronizing clocks on computer systems.
The bugs were made public in security bulletins on Friday by the Department of Homeland Security and the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute. Carnegie Mellon identified dozens of technology companies, including Apple, whose products might be vulnerable.

APPLE's OS-X has always been a generation ahead of Windows...

"Spinning rainbow wheel" still beats "Dead Blue Screen" every which way..

"Windows" has always been a poor catch-up "me too" copy of OS-X ~ except that it crashes 7->8 times as often.. Razz

WHEN I updated to Yosemite a few weeks ago, there was a pop-up window asking if I wanted system updates to install automatically in the background ~ so it simply offered an extra 'opt-in' choice, where before OS-X notified that updates were available and gave a 'install now' or wait till later choice..

Idea

APPLE has always been the first choice for the more sophisticated "off the shelf" users, especially those into photography, videos and music.

KEEN computer nerds and geeks willing be playing around with Linux, not 40+-year-old Windows.. Windows-Wallies wetting themselves over Apple's OS-X might actually mean something if they were programming their own machines. But 99.9% never will..

Sorry wolf real computers use at least 2 buttons on thier mouse. Apple still doesn't make real servers or gaming rigs.

P.S. APPLE has had genuine "servers" available for over 20 years, if needed. Made to order..

AS FOR "Gamers" ~ what self-respecting real gamer 'worth their leather' would even be caught with Windows operated off-the-shelf computers these days, when they can go the custom-made route...

wolf I am a Server Technician, Apple just make toys.
My Windows Gaming rig (unlike apple, you can buy your own parts and make your own) has more power than most Apple Servers, and it isn't even new if I made one now i could make one with over twice the power of the top Apple server and it would still cost less Rolling Eyes

Buttons are about interface capacity, 1 button means only one option (they way Apple likes it geek

limits their market to those that don't like choice tongue

)
that's why most Mouses used by gamers/power users have at least 4. that is why gamers and power users (or anyone with good sense tongue

) don't use Apple.

ALL of the same level of upgrades ~ motherboards, video cards, harddisks, SSDs, massive amounts RAM ~ are available from "3rd party" suppliers that advertise in MacWorld every month...

AS FOR operating systems ~ Windows hasn't matched OS-X for more than TWENTY years ~ been playing 'catch up' ever since the late 1980s.
AND WHATEVER happened to that Load of Shite "VISTA" embarrassment of a pretend OS that MS had during the early noughties ~ before reverting 'back' to Windows 8 !!!
I notice that these days MS likes to pretend that their "OS-X emulator" operating system didn't even exist ! Certainly NOT one of MS's prouder moments..
AS IF it were all a bad dream... lol!

WINDOWS has always been the "Catch-Up kings" !!!
