British people playing U.S. heroes

So ... British actors play the most recent incarnations of Spider-man, Superman, Batman (at least for now) and, um ... Abraham Lincoln.

So let's go ahead and cast Shia LeBeouf as the next Bond ...

(Seriously though, that would be a tragedy.)

But really, Lincoln? He was in his 50s when the Civil War broke out. Jeez, we could have at least cast the Greatest Actor of All Time -- Bryan Cranston:

Haha, to be honest it is refreshing. For years it seemed British actors were the go to guys for Hollywood when casting villains- emphatically so in Disney movies where everyone from Shere Khan and Scar to Jafar had a stereotypical English accent

Righto, chap Yes, for the longest time villians in U.S. action movies had a British accent. But I suspect it was because the Russians and Saudis would have gotten too upset ...

At least we've still got Captain America and Iron Man Until somebody, finally, realizes Robert Downey Jr. is a lot older than he acts ...

     A few years ago, I read where a Scottish historical association has Braveheart listed as #2 in the Worst Movie representations of Scotland's history...

(Mel Gibson is actually another American pretending to be an Aussie ~ he was born in Texas, shifted over here with his parents when he was 12, went to High School and then the National Institute of Dramatic Arts {'NIDA} down here, and then shifted back to the USA sometime in the late 1980s or early '90s.  He still has an interest in Oz through 2 or 3 beef cattle properties in Victoria and southern NSW..).

FAIR'S fair, I say...

AFTER all of those American actors that studios would have playing Aussie, Kiwi and British historical characters and identities in so many movies back in the 1950s and '60s..

THE AMERICAN studios and distributors claimed it was so the American audiences would see some "familiar names and faces" in those films, when they went to market them at home !


WHEN it was more recently pointed out how more times than not US studios are completely rewriting and misrepresenting historical events (with 'Enigma' being the all time classic..), one leading Hollywood director quipped that "We're in the business of producing entertainment, not historical documentaries.." !

Actually, I think if you can have a British Superman you can have a British anything ... Superman is basically an American flag that can kick yo ass ...
